why is it so much warmer there than here? your up in the snow world area

Up earlier than usual this morning, woke at 4:30 eastern time, some nights just can't get more than 4 or 5 hours. The first gust of wind bringing in the cold air just made the house "creak" and I had to put on my field jacket, hood and gloves to go out to the driveway to get the morning newspaper. The thermometer out back reads 19* as I have my cup of Java Gold Dark Roast along with a cereal bar. But this cold snap is to last for only 3 days and then back to a high of 47* by Sunday.

Tape, the simple answer is ....... I don't know. I do know that our weather is influenced in general by the Gulf Stream, an Atlantic Ocean current that runs from the Gulf of Mexico to the western side of Ireland/UK. It is also influenced by the Jet Stream, which is a rotational polar air current. Add to that the proximity of the European mainland, and it all goes towards affecting our weather.

When we get the northerly winds from the polar region, or the north-easterly winds from Siberia, then it does get really cold (by our standards) with plenty of ice and snow, but fortunately we haven't had any of that so far this year.

Clear, stiff breeze, cold, and 20°. 1st cup of Italian dark roast in my cup. Temp is still falling. 15 ° is forcasted. It gets cold up here in the mountains.

It is snowing again here in Western Montana.

My husband has been going to the range more often since he is retired. He still shoots in the cold and snow as I always did only I don't go if my arthritis is really bad.

He has been shooting 45acp and 45-70 lately.

He has been reading more books since he is retired.

He still walks on a regular basis.

I enjoy having him around since he is retired and we have not driven each other nuts yet! LOL

We have watched some nice Christmas shows on PBS too.

We did not go to the hot springs with the snow coming down this winter so far. There is one place where I like to swim in the outdoor pool with the snow coming down but the pool is warm! Getting in and out is a you know what! Grin. Caution: ICE ON DECK!

The ski resorts are ready too. I do not snow ski. My husband is not into skiing either.

Pretty chilly here this morning (not compared to the rest of the country I supposed). Looking at heavy rain for the next two days which is still much needed so no complaints here. Have a good one.

It's 42° with partly cloudy skies and the sun is trying to break through, so it looks like it should be a good day. I've got trips to two indoor clubs to make, so it will be an excellent day!

2* at 6:00 AM. I just went out and got a few pieces of wood for the furnace and it didn't feel bad with out the wind. I will get the fire going with the wood and then put the coal to it and that will warm it up. Having my Henry mug of coffee while it fires up. Have a nice day and a great week end.

I'm having a second cup in my Scout Jamboree mug. I have to snowblow the driveway before work. We got some bad weather yesterday. Perfect for the company Christmas party.

Cate, I'm glad you are enjoying your husband's retirement. I'm especially glad he is enjoying it too. I retired once and recommend it to everyone. It gave me something to look forward to when I retire again. I'm getting used to working full time and part time.
