Ruger .22mag Precision Rifle report

Post by GunnyGene » Thu Oct 21, 2021 2:58 pm

Weather was good, a little cloudy, but got the rifle scoped. After getting it zeroed (took about 20 rds on a different target) here's the result. The gun doesn't much like the 30grn V-max - trouble chambering the first 2 or 3 rnds from a full mag due to that tiny little shoulder hanging up. Once it gets past that no problems.

10rnds. Red Bull is 1.5" dia. Not so steady from a sitting position. A better position would tighten up the group, but at my age this is about as good as it's gonna get. ;)

From the sitting position that is a good group. Got some pics of the rifle?

http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12247 . Last couple pics in the thread. Put a 3-9 x40 Thrive ZT scope on this morning. Never heard of the brand, but it looked pretty good at my lgs for $200, and I didn't want to spend more on a scope than I did for the rifle. :)

Definitely a good, consistent and tight group from that position. Well done.

The local Varmints are in trouble. These guys I know with theres Gene set golf balls out at 250 yards hangin on a string and shoot them for fun.

The rifle, with the right ammo and scope, is capable of that. Unfortunately, I'm not. :(

Hang ‘em at 100. Your target says you’re more than capable enough for that. Still great fun. Besides - at 250 yards even if you hit one it’s hard to see the result even through a scope.

We get a drill, put some holes in an old 2X4, put golf tees in the holes, tee up the balls and shoot ‘em. Farthest “drive” gets bragging rights. The only thing more fun is a few Ruger Mark II’s (or a reasonable facsimile) and marshmallows floating down the creek. Marshmallows can take quite a beating from a .22. The original self healing target.

No need to spend money on golf balls. I've got a magnolia tree and a lot of pine trees. :)
