Scope on a Long Ranger?

Both OPs, spoke of using the iron sights without a scope.
Regardless of what base is attached to the rifle, the scope rings mounted atop the base block view of the iron sights. Quick attach/detach rings give the shooter the option of quickly switching between scope and iron sight use if the base is thin enough or iron sights are high enough without removing the base.

Ya but I got the impression the OP wanted to have access irons while being able to use the scope too

No sir, not at all. I was interested to see if others besides me had scoped theirs, some friends were giving me grief for scoping a lever action.

Yes it was my mistake as Mags pointed that out also. I dont see a thing wrong with it. Especially if you are blessed with the eyes to be able to use the irons. I havent seen the irons on the LR so Im not sure how they would work for me. But if there the same ones the use on the SS I didnt care for those at all. Show youre friends the picture of the LR without the irons and ask them if they could shoot that one.

From the pictures of a single shot, the rear sight looks like it is the same one as on the sighted LR.

When I bought my LR, I was going for the unsighted. I could not find any LGS that had one in .223/5.56. In fact the sighted LR in .223/5.56 was the only one around. Lots of other LR calibers available. I digress. Anyway, my first impression of the sight was that it was a fixed sight; not adjustable; that Henry must have zero'd it at the factory. I'd never seen a iron sight like that before. There are no instructions in the manual for how to adjust the rear sight. First time at the range it was clear that the sight wasn't zero'd. After taking a real good close look at the sight, it sorta became obvious how to adjust it for elevation. I got used to it after that. I like the fold over feature. Knowing I was going to scope it, I didn't give it much thought other than wondering if the iron sight could still be used once the Skinner scope mounts were installed.

I know this discussion is pretty much geared toward a standard scope mounting situation, but I am curious as to if anyone here has Scout mounted a Long Ranger lever gun.

Putting a scout scope on one of these would be ideal for me, as this is how I prefer to have a scope mounted. I'm not averse towards putting standard eye relief scope on, but my love of a scout style long eye relief scope works way better for me and how I shoot. I have not seen too many, or any actually, pictures or anything where someone has scouted a Long Ranger oh, so I'm kind of thinking it hasn't really been done too much.

Its called the "Long Ranger" for marketing purposes! Yes, it might have the best possible performance (max of 400 yards on game) of any other Henry produced rifle (impact speed, energy and groups measured in inches vice feet). However, each of us has our own definition of the term. My definition for 'long range" is after the bullet passes the point that is has traveled in 0.5 seconds. YMMV.

0.5 second time-of-flight yardage for Henry LR with 20 in barrel though the barrel twist may not support (stabilize) the bullet weight listed:

223 (69g bullet) - about 400 yards
243 (105g bullet) - about 460 yards
308 (168g bullet) - about 400 yards
6.5 Creedmoor (140g bullet) - about 425 yards

Even with a scope, probably beyond my capabilities to shoot/hit a target that far away, so for me I'd call all those distances long range.

I have a new Long Ranger in 6.5 Creedmoor. It was supplied without sights, but with Skinner scope bases. Now awaiting delivery of Warne 1" medium scope rings. I have a Nikon Buckmaster 3 X 9 X 40 purchased for this rifle.
I am not into shooting paper or animals at long distances. Longest shot I need to take on my ranch is 150 yards (blind to feeder).
I have a Savage Axis bolt action rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor; so far I have taken 3 whitetails with it using Hornaday 143 gr. ELD-X bullets. All 3 were instant kills. Anxious to try the Long Ranger at the same distance

Update: Warne rings delivered today (Sunday---Amazon) scope installed and rifle lazer boresighted. Headed to range on Tuesday..

I've enough rifles for anything on this side of that.
Tomorrow I'm taking my Finnwolf in 243 to the Long Range Silhouette match.
The Finnwolf is kinda heavy for this old man.
A Longe Ranger in 6.5 Creedmoore would be great for that.

I came this close || to getting the LR in 6.5 Creedmoor while searching for the LR .223/5.56. Almost gave up and went with the Creedmoor, until the Coastal Farm gun desk told me they had a .223/5.56 at another store. Besides I didn't really like the fat Creedmoor ammo and limit of 4 per magazine. Currently have a Leupold scope on it.
