Marlin 1894CS .357
Marlin 1894CS .357
A while back ( over a year or so ago), I stated I was looking for a .357 rifle. I finally decided on a Marlin. It was a little cheaper and has a loading gate. Even though a tube is not a deal breaker, I seem to prefer a gate for now. And yes, I did make an on-line purchase (sight unseen).

Well, when one door closes, another opens. Most times, it is a better door. So, keep looking!Mistered wrote:I think the JM Marlin .357 I was looking at might be a memory now considering my well issues!

I am no expert, but I understand it to have Ballard rifling. Yet, I probably will shoot whatever is cheap at Wal-Mart for starters. However, will post a range report of what I use.Flinch wrote:I would like to hear how that Marlin groups with lead bullets.

Heck run a patch down the barrel, hose it down with Rem-Oil, cycle a tube full of rounds for a function check and start shooting! But, I wanted to clean and check it over first (if I can wait).

I really like the Marlins, how is the fit and finish on your new one? Can you take another pic, against a light background like a beige towel? Your picture is really underexposed. Thanks.

I ran a couple of dummy rounds through before I picked it up. All seems to cycle well. I have thought about running a patch through it. But, thought about field stripping first. I remember when I bought my 336W a few years back. It jammed at times (could have been me not cycling with purpose). But after I took the magazine off, I found a hard piece of plastic by the carrier. Since then, it cycles fine. And if I was not trying to finish a school assignment by Sunday night, I would probably clean it tonight. So, I try to squeeze in what I can, when I can. Yes, priorities. Fun is a must. Yet, work comes before play (most times anyway).

Fit and wood seem fine. There are a some blemishes on the receiver. Over all, I am satisfied with it. Hopefully, these pictures are better.
