March 16th 1860 / 1871

Finally got to the range. The shooting shed doors were frozen shut, and some drifts to shoot over. Just went outside beside the shed and shot. It's about 42F today and a small breeze, maybe 20 mph. My Henry 1860 and Colt 1871 Richards Conversion revolver, both in 45 Colt. Boy am I rusty. These targets are certainly not my best. Last time I pulled a trigger was back in January and it shows. Anyhow, here we go...

25 yards, 1871 Colt Richards, 8" barrel, 25 rounds of Western Munitions reloads, 1-hand standing, at least most are in the 4" circle

50 yards, 1860 Henry, 25 rounds same ammo, shooting from 1 knee, open sights, 8" target, got inside or on the 5" circle but dropping bottom left

No need to apologize for those targets, RR. Love that one handed shooting with the Colt. That's some fine, good old fashioned pistolero work. Beautiful target with the rifle, too. That kneeling is another traditional shooting position I hope do a bit more, this year. maybe some sitting, too, as in sitting on the ground, not a bench. Was my favorite field position, back in the day.

Well, Cowboy, you continue to lead the herd across the rushing river with no losses! Great shooting - once again! Like a kid in sandlot baseball, I would pick you first to be in my "posse".

Seriously, though, with a little practice, a good field sitting position can be nearly as steady as sitting at the bench, especially if you have a rock or tree behind your back to act as a brace.

Can't use that "rusty" excuse anymore....it's too well-known now on the Forum.
Always like your gun photos, too.....adds some trail dust to the rust.
