My new 357 Henry Carbine and its Ruger Companion

This is my first Henry and my initial impressions are very positive. It may take a little bit for me to get past the lack of a receiver loading gate, but I’ll bet I can get beyond it. The important stuff (fit, finish and function) appear to be very well executed, and I believe this little guy should provide some very entertaining shooting sessions.

Welcome from Chattanooga, TN. You have a nice caliber companion set their. I also favor my GP100 in 357 and I love my Henry All Weather in 357 as it's caliber companion. My Ruger Mark II's and the SP101 are the caliber companions for my Henry 22's.

I picked up the .44 Mag version of the Carbine to go along with my Ruger SBH .44 Mag revolver and it has worked out VERY well since both like my
favorite bullet and load.
As far as no side loading gate...I found that I can just slip one in the chamber and continue on shooting if I need to.

One question on yours...does the fore stock have that little bit of up and down movement near the receiver?

To answer a couple of questions that were asked above:

Today, I am in the process of working up a load for my Carbine using H110 and Hornady 158gr. XTPs.

My Henry’s forearm is tight and has no lateral or vertical play. On the other hand, I have several Marlins that have a little forearm play and they are solid shooters. I also have a 3 screw 44 mag. Blackhawk that I seriously thought about getting a Carbine to match up with it. Maybe someday I will... CP.

Today, I am in the process of working up a load for my Carbine using H110 and Hornady 158gr. XTPs.

14.8 gr of H110 (per Nosler) has been our long time hunting level load for their 158 gr JHP bullets that perform extremely well in both of our Ruger GP100's; as well as, in our Henry BBS 357 .... in their latest reloading manual they have bumped that up to 15.9 grs, we haven't loaded any of them to see how they perform

I also have a 3 screw 44 mag. Blackhawk that I seriously thought about getting a Carbine to match up with it. Maybe someday I will... CP.

we also own a BBS 44 Mag that is one of our favorite rifles .... we matched it up with our Ruger Redhawk
