PT7 -- Russian at the Range

Made a short visit to the range today to relax and have some fun with off hand shooting of my Russian .45LC top break revolver. And it definitely was fun

TARGET
Again I really appreciated Bandit's suggestion to use an inverted triangle as a target. Made this one 6" each side. The POA sure is easier for me to maintain. I might find it hard to go back and use my remaining round targets...

AMMO & TARGET DISTANCE
#1 POIs on the target are 10 rounds of Choice .45 Colt 200gr RNFP Cowboy Action. Distance was 10 yards. My first shot of the day was the POI in center of left downward angle. That good start always brings a grin....

#2 POIs on the target are 15 rounds of Choice .45 Colt 250gr RNFP Cowboy Action. Distance was 15 yards. Liked the group of three huddled together, again on the left downward angle.

IRON SIGHT
I especially enjoy how my elder eyes work so well handling the tiny notched rear iron sight with the front blade. I still remember that the sight size almost was a deal breaker when I researched this Uberti....glad that didn't happen.

Looking good PT7. Do you notice the difference in the 200gr vs 250gr? Preference? I was looking at some cheaper 200gr ammo for just target practice and save some of my 250gr for the zombie apocalypse.

Yes, there is a noticeable difference in the 200gr vs 250gr, RR. I feel a stronger recoil from the 200gr ammo. Since I'm not a reloader, someone else may show up with the reason. The 200gr has an FPS rating of 950, while the 250gr ammo FPS is 820, which might have something to do with it. Uberti recommends a .45LC bullet with a maximum of 875 fps for my revolver. So I'll try to stick to that guideline.

Since we both shop shelves for our .45LC ammo, you are spot-on in looking for some less-spendy ammo to do your target practice. Last month I bought two 50-round boxes of Black Hills Ammo 250gr RNFP. It is rated at 725 FPS, and shoots quite nicely. However, BHA ammo is definitely high-end .45LC, as far as I've seen. Can't use that all the time for sure....my budget would wither away.

I enjoyed reading your "goal" to own all the manufactured .45LC ammo in Canada. Think I'll settle for about 300 rounds in my ammo can. That also might help me to behave with how many .45LC rounds I bring to the range!!

One other fun thing about this caliber. Yup, those holes are definitely big and mighty easy to see.
