Single Shot 357 and bowling with the 45-70

I went to the grasslands today to shoot up some 45-70 bullets I had bought and were not working out do to the length of them. They are the Speer 350gr and there not meant for leverguns I found out later. I went ahead ad loaded them up to shoot them and just loaded them one at a time. I took out my target stand that I made up and hung up some of the bowling pins I have left to shoot at Here is a picture of the stand and a leftover bowling pin

It was a cloudy day for the most part and you will see in one picture there was blue sky to the north but for the most part it was low light which makes seeing the open sights a little more difficult for me. Normally Im not to bad but today it was tougher. I also took out the single shot in 357. Im not real fond of the sights on it but I managed to get them usable for the most part. I had some loads I loaded up for one of my Ruger single action 357's. So I took those along with some other loads I need to use up. I hung a target benched the gun at 50 yards and fired away with 5 rounds of the new loads and the target in the picture was the result. Stock Henry sights best I could do today.

Final shot is the single shot on the range. I like the gun. Its a great plinker. Im not wild about the trigger or the hammer pull like other people have mentioned. But for what the gun is and cost its manageable. Its light weight and it handles really nice. Its fun to shoot. I think Im gonna stick a red dot on it as the stock irons leave alot to be desired. I have seen where guys are changing out the hammer springs and getting a better trigger. I might do that in the future but I want to shoot it more before I do. The group on the target shot is actually at the 12 oclock position. The picture rotated to the 9 oclock position when posting.

over the years I've owned/fired several guns that one has to see in action to fully appreciate just how powerful they were .... a 45-70 is one of them .... really looking forward to your reports on both after you get the sights where you want them

I used 6 grains of Red Dot and a 125grhp Montana Gold bullet. I have a bunch of red dot and Im just trying to use some of it up. It sure does shoot good in the Ruger Single action also.

Your last photo, BigAl, is a really cool angle taken on your single shot sitting ready for its next three rounds. Interesting range report with a great "strike" on that bowling pin.
And I liked the honest eval you gave us, from your perspective, about the stock sights. Thanks for your post.
