Hammer trigger

I’ve gotten my wife a H015-223 for Christmas for turkey hunting and I had a hard time cocking it so I went ahead and gave it to her to see if she could cock it and she couldn’t. The trigger felt like a 2 stage trigger so I called Henry and sent it back to see if they will lighten things up a little but I don’t know if they will. Any of you guys have a fix for this? I read a granger #31 spring to replace the trigger and hammer spring will turn it into a great gun but haven’t tried it yet until I see what they do. Hope it’s back by Christmas!

I'm looking forward to following your progress .... we had a gunsmith work on your Henry lever action trigger pulls but what we learned from doing so is highly unlikely to have any relevance to your single shot .... A hammer extender (spur) really helps cocking the rifle, I think the better purchase makes it feel easier. I used the version Carlsons makes that Henry Pride has available, it's ambidextrous, so can be drawn from either side, lightweight, fits well, and is marked Henry . Mounting my scopes as low as possible pretty much requires a hammer spur anyway.

I do think Henry should be able to improve the trigger, I've been lucky, I guess, having good, crisp triggers on both of mine, albeit the newer .243 isn't quite as good as the early 45-70.

Thanks for the info on the hammer spur. I’ll order that for when it gets back but I hope they fix it and get it back by Christmas. I felt bad for her. We’re aloud to use a rifle and she has a Henry steel 30-30 and can use it just fine. I’ll add that rifle to the link also and will give updates as they become available.

Well we got the gun back today. It was delivered to the Wisconsin facility Monday and back home on Friday! Record time! The gun is so much better now. You can cock with about 1/2 of the force it took before and trigger is much better to! That’s why I like Henry even though I may have sounded discouraged before. They always come through! We’ll have to get a scope and zero it and see how she shoots now!

I just ordered some of those Grainger springs for my 357. Im going to change mine out and see what happens. I will have some for sale if any of you Gents with the single shots are interested. I will let you know when I have received them.

The springs from Grainger are a 31 pound spring. Henry uses a 51 pound spring. They use that heavy of spring to pass the drop test when the hammer is cocked. This is what I have read from other guys doing the leg work on this changing of the spring in the Henry Single Shot. This spring is what is resulting in the heavy hammer pull on the gun. When changing out that spring it reduces the hammer pull. I wont have any springs till the first week in Jan so I am told. I will post the process when I change mine.
