Color Case Hardened 30-30!
Color Case Hardened 30-30!
The Henryitis is worsening, but I adhered to my "if a gun comes in, another must go out" discipline (to use a term loosely) by dispensing with my S&W 67-1.
Bought this online from Tombstone Tactical, which I had monitored for years but never purchased from. Ordered last Wednesday and it showed up at my FFL on Friday!
Here are some close-ups of the CCH treatment, which is much more striking than I expected (in a good way), so I hope the photos do it justice. To my eye, it's just beautiful, and equally as "one of a kind" as the Henry walnut (which, in this rifle, is very plain, but that's okay, too).
It's now wearing a 2-7X33 Leupold VX Freedom and nice buffalo sling. Will post more pics and hopefully a decent target or two after tomorrow's range dial-it-in session.
Spelling edit.

Re: Color Case Hardended 30-30!
Your photos of the mottled CCH colors sure do outshine even the Henry web site photos...very nice!
And congrats also on having a rifle with so much deer-hunting history behind it.
Enjoy-enjoy.

Absolutely beautiful Henry. I wish they made the case colored 30-30 with a pistol grip stock like the case colored 45-70. I would order one tomorrow if they made the pistol grip model. Congratulations ESquared on getting a beauty.

Wow! What a great find. Keep us posted.

Re: Color Case Hardened 30-30!
Thanks, guys, it certainly exceeded my expectations. Here are a couple more photos with scope and sling attached. Ordered the Talley scope rings from Henry (LOW) and the scope is still a bit higher than I would like, but I wanted to keep the overall look cleaner and avoid the rail. Trade-offs, I guess.
As noted earlier, the wood is unremarkable, but I don't know that I'd want it to compete with the CCH. So much for my gun design expertise!
Range targets and performance notes to come later in Range Reports.

Nicely outfitted and pretty too. Couple questions. Do CCH pictures on the computer looks like what you have in real life? Dovetail filler plan?

The CCH Pictures on my camera and on my computer screen are very faithful to the coloration in real life. Everybody's computer screens are different, but I'm happy to send you these pics via email if you want to look further. You never know how things might morph by the time they get from my server to the forum's to your computer screen. Just let me know, Mags, and I'll send you more sample photos if you'd like.
Haven't decided on the dovetail filler yet. Will probably just get the $11 special from Skinner, but wasn't ahead of the curve on that accessory. I'm slippin'...

Re: Color Case Hardened 30-30!
I haven't gotten to that point yet. But, I have not purchased that many firearms also. At any rate, happy shooting! I enjoy shooting my 30-30. And, I am on the look out for a stainless .357 rifle as well. Yes, downsizing. I guess I am looking to do the opposite of what you did. But, I think it will make a nice addition for less than 75 yards shots and fun to shoot without buying another caliber of ammo. Plus, it will give my wife something to shoot.ESquared wrote:The Henryitis is worsening, but I adhered to my "if a gun comes in, another must go out" discipline (to use a term loosely) by dispensing with my S&W 67-1.

Re: Color Case Hardened 30-30!
I've still got a healthy handful of Sigs that I'd hate to part with, but you never know. I"ve sold the ones that I had no trouble letting go earlier this year, but the ones that are left are "special" in some way or another. Some more special than others, depending on the day...

Re: Color Case Hardened 30-30!
I’m at a point where this is my philosophy too. I sold my Ruger .44 Carbine when I bought my BBS. It would have been nice to keep them both, but I think 8 long Guns is enough for me. Unless a killer deal on a semi auto 12 gauge falls in my lap...ESquared wrote:The Henryitis is worsening, but I adhered to my "if a gun comes in, another must go out" discipline (to use a term loosely) by dispensing with my S&W 67-1.

Awesome rifle. Nice looking CCH and checkered furniture!!!! Congrats on your new rifle. Im crazed about all firearms but i too would rather have a Henry than a S&W myself. Great choice in caliber too.
