Supposed to set a record hi on Friday....might hit 98F here. Moving cows on weekend, supposed to drop to 70's.

Put a coat of penetrating oil for pressure treated wood on the front and side deck tonight. It is just a clear coat and will dry lighter. Makes the grain pop though.

Your deck wood has some very knotty character in it. What kind of wood is it?

Knot sure...ok sorry about that couldn't help myself.

It is brown pressure treated wood instead of the usual green stuff. No idea what they make it out of.

There may have been a tag stapled to the end of the wood plank that 'wood' say. Any of the tags survive the build? Cut ends laying around with the tag still on them?

Almost looks like some sort of cedar, but didn't know they made pressure-treated cedar of any kind.

Once the oil stain goes on it will take on some rich tones and the the grains will pop. We are pretty excited to have the whole project completed. Long time dream to have all 3 decks done. Front, side and back.

Not to steal your great thread. If I may, would like to sneak in a couple of photos from the last wood deck I built when we had our KS house. (I can delete this post, if it shouldn't be here). I've built quite a few decks, steps, and picket fence projects for my wife over the years, but this one turned out to be about the best. There was no deck coming off the mud room by the back door of our house (left steps in the first photo), and the existing wood steps didn't have a railing. That made it treacherous up/down in the winter, if any snow and/or ice. So quite early on in our almost 11 years in this home, I added my deck, stairs, and railing. Tried to blend it in with the older look of the house, which was built in 1908. My finish was only a wood sealer....love the look of natural wood, knots, and grains. The folk who bought our home have taken excellent care of it, and chose to paint the deck white. That's okay, because all looks really fine even today.

These two photos were taken in 2014. Met the folks when I visited our former town, and asked if I could take some pics of their beautiful property and house. Got their okay! So I had built the deck you see here in the late 1980s. Nothing to me is as beautiful as wood. I'm so pleased it is still standing proud and strong!

Your finished wood deck looks really fine, RR. If it were mine, I'd definitely get the thumbs hooked on a pair of suspenders and stand pleased & proud beside it. Great job

Been staining all day....stairs on other side need to be built yet, but getting there. All stain on except the other stairs...haven't sanded the stairway railing yet either.
