My New A Salt Rifle
today I received a very unusual gift .... as one who has never owned an asalt rifle, I was delighted .... OK, let's be clear, mine is a Bug-A-Salt rifle ===> https://www.bugasalt.com/ ..
.. talk about a blast, I've had a ball with it this afternoon .... a couple of observations : the slide action isn't as smooth as that of our Henry rifles and I doubt it ever will be ... also, the trigger pull is a bit stiff ..
.. without any practical experience to draw on, I decided it would be good pattern it .... the 2nd/3rd/4th pictures show the pattern at 1 ft, 2 ft, and 3 ft... the 3 ft pattern is a bit hard to see, I may need to refire it ..
.. the next couple are before and after pictures show a couple of targets (AKA ants) on a picnic table seat about 3 ft away ..
.. I do note that they offer a laser sight option which I'm strongly considering .... I'm pretty sure I'll be spending a good deal of time with it in the coming days and look forward to more/better range reports ..

JEBar,
All I can say about viewing your new asalt rifle is that I have a big smile on my face as I looked over the details on the web site.
Never have seen the likes, and it's kinda kool!
And especially when camping, you'll never run out of "targets!"

It reminds me of the old potato launchers. How many grain bullets will it shoot?

We picked up one of these at a gunshow a couple of months back - couldn't resist - the videos on them were hilarious.

That looks like a blast of fun.
My preferred ant-salt weapon is a mag glass.

Loved it! Hey, if you run out of targets, come on up for a visit. We'll let you test that thing on mosquitoes.

That looks like a lot of fun JEBar! Our local Sam’s Club had a bunch of them. Have you brought down any deer flies, etc. while they were flying? What’s the lethal distance? Hope you have lots of kills; especially if it’s a buggy summer in your part of the country.

Re: My New Asalt Rifle
out to 3 feet seems to be the effective range .... at 1 foot they hit the fly so hard it leaves a blood smear .... I've hit a bunch that were taking off, don't recall hitting one coming in for a landing .... have hit a few cottonwood seeds floating by ... I've popped a good number of what we call horseflies .... they are big, they bite, and it takes them out just as efficiently as it does a common housefly ....

Tried it on Yellow Jackets yet?JEBar wrote:out to 3 feet seems to be the effective range .... at 1 foot they hit the fly so hard it leaves a blood smear .... Re: My New Asalt Rifle
After I looked at the link earlier in this thread, I later got a pop-up window of a demo. Sure is a deadly "insect assault" rifle! And it looks like it really effectively does the job it was designed to do.
How much salt is initially loaded? Don't need the grains,
but in ounces or teaspoons?
Maybe this is a dumb question. I'd say this would be much more suited for outdoor use rather than any indoor use? I'm curious if there is a lot of salt cleanup after a shot is made taking down an insect?
All-in-all, it is a cool
tool.

Re: My New Asalt Rifle
cool tool indeed ..
.. haven't measured the amount of salt it holds but it is less than half of what the regular size salt shaker on our table holds .... they say 80 shots per filling .... you could use it inside but we don't so no cleanup has been necessary .... OK, my wife made that determination ..
.. we are slated to attend a picnic this coming Sunday, I've volunteered to guard the watermelon ..
..

Ya, right. Who is going to protect the watermelon from you?JEBar wrote:... I've volunteered to guard the watermelon ....
