Cool Targets Range Report

Ok for all you people that wondered about the cool Targets at the range here you go. Today it was shootin weather here in the rockies. 65 degrees so I decided to take one of these out and pound on it. I just got a wisner extractor for the Marlin 39a. I was anxious to get it out and see if it cured my problem for the Marlin. Happy to report no more issues with extraction. I also took my Henry SGC in 22LR. I wanted to fine tune the sights a bit more and I think I got that done. I really like that SGC its just a kick to shoot. The action is so smooth. Last but not least I took the big Henry 45-70AW. Yup I wanted to throw some big ones at the cool targets. As you can see it did just fine. I hit quite a few times with the 45-70. I think I shot about 20 rounds at it with the 45-70. I didnt have some of the rounds I wanted to have loaded up for the AW. The rounds I had werent very accurate for that gun. None the less there was enough hits for you to see. I think these are better for shooting larger caliber the 22 doesnt move them much from 50 yards. But the 45-70 does. I think if you look below also you can see a bullet strike on the spring. There is also alot of 22 holes. Al

That is one tough little critter! Good shooting Big Al. 20 rounds through a 45-70 would be the end of my rotator cuff injured shoulder! The 45 Colt is hard enough on it.

Good shooting, BigAl! Those reactive targets are always cool to push around.
And every time you mention your smooth SGC and how much you like it, I just big time. I do know that rifle well, and it is a blast to shoot....no matter what the target.

about what distance were you shooting when you hit it with the 45-70..

I was at about 40 yards with the 45-70. RetiredSeabee yes the back side looks exaclty the same. You really cannot tell any difference. They worked good. Next time out Im gonna shoot some 357 at them. I just wanted today to hit them with my best shot using the 45-70. I really dont think most people would use a 45-70 to shoot these with but if they do they will take a lickin and keep on standin. Great question, RSb. I'd be curious about that, too.

I have a Birchwood-Casey jack reactive ground target made out of a really hard polymer. I've shot it with .357 magnum, .38 special, and quite a lot of .22LR ammo. Even once moved it along using 7-1/2 buckshot.....lots of BBs in the target after that shooting! Here is a photo of my target from the MidwayUSA web site where I got it.

I couldn't tell if there were "exit holes" on mine, because it bounces and turns in every direction, and lands on different points. BigAl might notice an exit hole, because his has a "front position" as it is mounted on that spring.

Glad it worked for you. Backside exit holes about the same?
