First fire long ranger 243

Post by LeverGuy » Sun Apr 22, 2018 6:32 pm

Hello all,
So today I took my new 243 to the range. Sighting in went well but a few rounds seemed to have a small bulge about an eighth inch from the base. As this occurred it was very difficult to open the action. Not sure if it was the ammo. Will try a different brand this week. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned about a possible internal adjustment? On the other hand I only got to fire 10 rounds through my big boy .357, once my wife shot it she wouldn’t give it back. Might have to get her one.

There is no 'internal adjustment' that will correct a bulged case BUT report back after trying a different brand of ammo and take the time to pull the bolt and really clean the chamber well before your next range outing. Make sure it is 'sparkling' clean and will chamber ammo with no hesitation.

CAN one easily pull the bolt of a long ranger to clean it from the breach?

Bulging cases aren't normal. Nice to see a 243 report I hope the issue doesn't continue.
