A tooth pick.
A quality round toothpick with the end cut at an angle and dipped in oil. When the end is loaded up, cut a new end.
Wood will not damage the finish.

I picked up a box of them a few months back. There are some crevices that collect crud in a couple of my firearms that a toothpick is the perfect tool to remove. I've also been known to cut a small piece of wood on the bandsaw for a special cleaning job.

Yesterday evening I tried this "new tool" when I cleaned the inside connecting end of my Stevens 20ga barrel. I regularly use Q-tips for hard-to-reach spots on my firearms. But sometimes there are those left-over strands that I need to pull out with tweezers. Using a tooth pick, cutting a new end when needed, works really well. Least expensive tool in my toolbox!
