Saddle Knife
Does anyone know what a saddle knife is? I need to buy one for Miss Evelyn's daughter and I don't know what one looks like. Is it a specific knife or just a good knife that a horseperson would carry?
Hi, my name is Gene and I'm a Henryholic from Wisconsin.

Re: Saddle Knife
A saddle knife I believe is a small knife to clean stones from horse hoofs . Here is pic of them in my opinion which don't agree with me .

Re: Saddle Knife
Not really familiar with a saddle knife, but we have horses and there is no way you'd use something like that to clean a horse hoof - TX might have it mixed up with a hoof knife.

A hoof knife that a farrier uses to shape hoofs is total different then the one I was think of .tractortad wrote:Not really familiar with a saddle knife, but we have horses and there is no way you'd use something like that to clean a horse hoof - TX might have it mixed up with a hoof knife.

Re: Saddle Knife
Looks like a good question but you may need to get a little more information about intended use. There are a lot of knives that say saddle knife and they seem like regular knives both folding and fixed blade. There are also knives for making saddles. There is even a civil war knife that was called a "saddle knife"
I am attaching a couple of links. One site makes knives and sheaths to wear comfortably while riding horseback. The other has a picture of the civil war saddle knife.
I know I have been absolutely no help at all but I like knives and your question peaked my interest.

Re: Saddle Knife
given, my working in a saddle on a ranch is very limited .... back when I did, the guys carried short, fixed blade, sheath knives on various places on their saddles .... they weren't fancy, they were working wives .... here is a link to the type I remember ===> http://www.budk.com/Timber-Rattler-Rive ... nife-17339

Re: Saddle Knife
Maybe she is a leatherworker. This knife is sometimes called a saddle knife... it's used primarily to cut saddle skirts.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Saddle Knife
I've not heard the terminology of saddle knife but I suspect it's similar to this one I carry. Most horsemen/women carry one. Handy as heck.
