Multiple Rilfes

its clear from reading on the open forum that it is common for folks to have multiple hand guns and/or shotguns in the same caliber/gauge .... its also common to read of folks having multiple 22 rifles .... what I don't see expressed anywhere near as often is folks having multiple centerfire rifles in the same caliber ... I own 5 centerfire rifles, no two are of the same caliber ....

just wondering :

how many of our folks have multiple centerfire rifles in the same caliber .... in addition, what about that caliber interest you sufficiently to have more than one .... are they collectors or active shooters

We have several types of both 357 rifles and 223 rifles. In fact, in both of those, we also have them in pistols and we shoot all of them a lot. For us, it's mostly different types of actions and also the way we set them up with different sights, for the various types of shooting we do. Big difference in a rig I would use at the bench versus shooting offhand for serious target work versus a rig designed for fun plinking and so on. Basically the same reasoning behind all our different types of rimfires.

In the 223, we shoot Contender pistols in 10" and 14" lengths, then go to 16.25" and 21" for the rifles. Also shoot the 223 in a CZ American bolt gun. The 223 is our main regular centerfire rifle choice because of its accuracy and the relatively low cost of factory ammo. That's important, now that we don't reload.

The 357 is similar. In the Contender pistols we shoot 10" and 12" and then go to 16.25" for the rifle. We also shoot the 357 in a single action Cimarron SA and, of course, our Marlin rifle. Same reason on the cost of ammo, but we also love shooting a handgun cartridge in the rifles.

I have “several” 30-30 leverguns. Henry and Marlin. Used to have a Winchester, but sold it. If ya look on the Marlinowners Forum, there are guys there with very impressive numbers of Marlin 336 rifles. They can be very addicting.

I have three .223/5.56 rifles. Two AR15s and a left hand bolt action Savage.

I'm relatively new to the shooting sport and I don't plan to own a wide variety of firearms.

So far, I have one Henry rifle and one Uberti single action revolver that are .357s. I also own a 1960s vintage Colt Official Police .38 special revolver. As a new shooter, I thought it would be smart and helpful to reload, so as long as I've been shooting, I've been reloading those center fire calibers. I also have a Henry .22LR and a Heritage Rough Rider 22LR revolver. I have more 22LR ammunition than I will use in my lifetime.

I don't see my collection growing unless my needs change. For now, I'm very happy just to become better acquainted with what I own and improve my skills with those guns.

I would stick with 45 Colt for anything else I buy. I only have the 1 rifle and 1 revolver, but I may add a single shot rifle in the spring.

I have 4 45-70's 2 Henrys a CCH and an All Weather. I also own a Browning 1886 limited high grade edition with the matching Browning Knife. The Browning is unfired. I got a good buy on it and always wanted one so I bought it. I also own a Chiappa Ridgerunner takedown in 45-70. I have a Marlin 357 levergun as well as a Henry Big Boy in 357. Dont think I have any other duplicateds in centerfire.Al

I have two 336's in 30-30. A 336W and a 336RC. To most that difference means little to me there an aesthetic and mechanical difference. One I'm using strictly for cast lead bullets the other jacketed rounds.

I like exact sets of duplicates in fishing poles, not so much wih rifles.

I don't have multiple center fire rifles of the same caliber. I do have some center fire handguns and rifles of the same caliber. I have several .22 rifles and several shotguns in 20 and 12 gauge but mainly for use when family make visits. On their visits we routinely spend time plinking with the .22's or shooting clay pigeons with the shotguns. Even the wives and daughters join the fun. My brothers all moved to cities and no longer own firearms but they never lost their country roots completely. When they visit their rednecks start to come back.

I have 2 IMI Timberwolves in .357, and will have more if I can find them. Would love to have another chambered in .44 magnum. Other than those, and my .22 rimfires, I don't have any doubles. I have a savage 93R17 bolt action .17HMR, a Browning stainless stalker X-bolt .223 bolt gun, and a Ruger M77 MkII stainless in .243.
My .22 rimfires consist of a Remington model 121 Fieldmaster pump, an AMT 25/22 Lightning (small game hunter version), a Ruger 10/22 takedown, and a Henry Golden Boy.

All of mine are shooters. If I could only have one, it would be a Timber Wolf. Really fun gun to shoot, and the first thing I grab when going for a stroll through our woods.

We have multiple rifles in 44Mag (3Henrys,2Rugers), 45LC(2Win,Marlin), and 45-70(Henry,Marlin,H&R,Win). Don't really have a good reason why - just like the different styles and actions of big bore rifles. They are all shooters.

to me, it seems like you have one of the very best possible reasons for having them .... that being you want them and enjoy them ... that is a position that I've never been in but would sure like to be .... firearms have always been something I'm more than willing to spend money on but the problem has been, for most of my life there have been demands with a higher priority on that same money .... now that our sons are on their own, grandsons are in the picture .... I'll never buy them the number of firearms I bought for our sons but there have been and will continue to be some .... right now I simply don't have a clue what I'd like to add to the ones in the safe ....

I like shootin Blackpowder as much as I do leverguns. So when gun money comes available Im forced to choose which one. I have decided to buy another longrifle in a flintlock so the next levergun will need to wait. Al

I have a number of handguns in the same calibers but different barrel lengths, or weights for different applications. For example, Let's say, hypothetically I, uh, someone, ... had FOUR Glocks in 40 caliber, one mini model 27, for deep concealment in those HOT summer months when you wear as few clothes as you can in the muggy Virginia weather and not get arrested. One mid-sized Glock 23 for regular concealed carry, and the 23C because it's compensated. A Glock 22 duty sized 40 caliber because I carried that one on duty and shoot standard matches and duty matches with it. Then there's the Glock 35, long slide competition model for High Speed/Low drag matches... falling plates and the like, pure speed. (What? Wait, one, two, three, four... and five.) Let's say someone has FIVE Glocks in the same caliber... all for a specific purpose.

Same with Rifles or shotguns... A half dozen 12 gauge shotguns, all set up for specific purposes. None of them hunting.
A couple .223 ARs, but different setups. One with a heavy barrel for .. well, longer shots. One that has a shorter barrel. That one is for use in the vehicles. (What? Oh... 10") Yeah, sweet huh?

My wife and I both plead guilty of owning multiple rifles chambered for the same cartridges. I am almost embarrassed to say we have 57 rim-fire rifles. One is a 22 Magnum and one 17 HMR and the rest are 22 LR. In that mess there is 17 Marlin 39A's and variations of the 39A. 12 CZ 452's, 2 Ruger Predators, 25 Remington's from the Model 33 and 34 from 1933 and '35 up to 581'S and 582 from the late '60's with a lot of 5-teen models in between. Don't beat me up to bad but there is only one Henry Frontier 22. Had two other Henry 001 but never cared for them as much as the Fronter so friends bought them from us. Also have three bolt action 223. Two 700 Remington and a Tikka T3. Two 444 Marlins. One set up with peep sights and one with 2-8 scope. Two 35 Remington Marlins. One is a SC from 1960 in mint condition and one is a 336 CS but is JM built. Three 870 12 ga. shotguns. Two are old models one from 1955 and a 1978 that was unfired until last year. One is a short barrel with camo stock and fore arm that is a 30th anniversary of the National Wild Turkey Federation (1973-2003) Don't have any multiple cal. handguns. Just not into hand guns since selling my T/C Contenders during hard times. Yes we are guilty just don't punish us to hard.

NO collector firearms for me ever. None for my late husband or for my MT husband. ALL shooters.

I am not knocking collectors when I say that we are/were not collectors. Different lifestyle and choices.

My MT husband and I used to do this same caliber (CF and RF) in handguns and in rifles. (I DID THIS before I knew him only I did NOT own any CF rifle of my own until I moved out west. It made sense for ME to own firearms that shared ammunition for most of them when I started to buy and shoot my own firearms. I was in my late 40's at the time.)

Out here... some were in the same brand, same model and same caliber so they Matched Exactly too. Rifles and handguns.

Others were in 30-30... a Marlin 336C (CT) and in a Marlin 336SS (CT). Some were in 45-70 - Classic and Guide Gun (CT Made Marlin). Two matching (RF) CT Made Marlin Golden 39A rifles.

Former Wins matched other caliber firearms in 357Magnum, 45Long Colt and in 30-30. ALL of the CF Wins were sold including my RF Winchester 94-22 from back east. That was sold out here when I sold the Browning BL 22 from back east too.

My late husband owned only 2 calibers in his lifetime for the FEW firearms that he owned during his entire lifetime. (22lr and 357Magnum) He did shoot some of my firearms when I got into shooting in my late 40's. He had his favorites in my guns.

My MT husband had MANY duplicate or same caliber rifles and handguns in his lifetime. (His 2 TOP favorite handgun calibers were in 45acp and 45 Long Colt. He had others but those 2 were his top ones.)

My MT husband did the 'same gauge' thing with some of his shotguns from what I was told. And from his former gun lists. I mainly knew his one former shotgun that he sold so he does not own any shotgun now.

Now...

2 Matching/Duplicate CF 45acp pistols. There are ONLY 2 handguns here in our house now. (I have not owned, carried or shot handguns in several years now.)

CF bolt action rifles ONLY in .223 - 2 different brands.

2 CF lever action rifles in 30-30 caliber (HENRY and CT Made Marlin).

2 CF lever action rifles in 45-70 (HENRY and CT Made Marlin).

Only one other rifle caliber (30-06) in 1 rifle so that does not count.

Several 22lr rifles here in a few brands. (No more 22wmr firearms.)

I have 2 'matching' Savage Rascal rifles but I mainly shoot one of them. Single shot 22lr rifles and they are VERY light weight. I still love the CZ rifles in 22lr too.

Count me among those who have multiple duplicates. I'm not a collector, but have more 10/22 variants than I need, some .22 LR bolt actions, a couple of.17 HMRs, one .22 WMR; all are shooters. When it comes to shotguns, you need at least a half dozen 12 ga. guns, for ducks, upland, general purpose - and I don't shoot clays much. Then add in some 20's and 16's, with a couple 28 ga. thrown in. No .410 bore, though. You gotta stop somewhere. In centerfire rifles, 30-30 leads with 4, 2 lever and 2 bolt action. 6.5 x 55 and .270 tie for second with 3 apiece, then it's one each of different calibers from .257 Roberts to .30-06, all of which do about the same thing, then we have the 9.3 x 62 and 45-70, which can do more. All are hunting rifles, shooters. I think I'm lacking a .243 single shot .
