NC trip to the range.

Twice a year the online Isuzu group I'm a part of does a NC trip to Uwharrie National Forest. We go to 4 wheel, camp, boat, fish and use the nice shooting range. This time I took my Golden Boy 22 and Mr Ambassador my 44 mag Big Boy.

I also took some of my handloads in 44 mag using light loads of Unique. Historically I like these loads but there has always been a few shots in each group that just wouldn't settle down. Maybe this time I did a better job of weighing the charges. These are the best groups I've ever shot with this load.

8 gr Unique 240gr Berry's copper plated RNFP. Per my previous chrono data these are running about 1,023fps. http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... 8&start=10

At 50 yards. I'm pretty sure both targets have 20 rounds on them. I was shooting 2 full tubes each target.

Kinda funny on each target a flyer got the mounting hole of the target.

This last target was the same 8gr Unique load with MBC plain lead 18 BHN RNFP. Per previous Chrono about 1,182 fps.
Should be 10 rounds on this one.

Very nice work, especially with the 44. One of our range pals has the henry in 44, too, and loves it.

When I see such targets, it reminds me how lever guns just make you want to keep shooting. Love shooting all our guns, of course, but just something magic about the lever guns. Preaching to the choir, of course, but posts like yours make me want to grab a lever gun and go to work. Thanks. Enjoyed it.

These were shot from a bench. That's the way I usually shoot.

This range doesn't frown on rapid fire like my local range. So I loaded up a full tube of the loads on the last target and shot free hand while working the lever. I think I managed to get 3 on paper! I probably need to spend some time working on that!

nice work indeed .... were there any other lever actions in use ? .... what was the reaction to yours

The day we were there it was mostly myself and a couple of friends. One of which is a member here and had his Big Boy as well. Both the RSO and a fellow in the next lane said a Henry was on their short list. The fellow in the next lane wants an 1860!

As far as reactions the Henry's rarely go unnoticed at any range.

Sounds like a good road trip. I have driven through Uwharrie a bunch of times. Just never gone into the park to check out the facilities. Gotta put it on the to do list.

Yup, I have to agree, the Henry always draws attention when you bring 'er out.
