Browning BLR 308

when it comes to developing a hunting load for our 1970 Browning BLR 308, that process was completed decades ago and the results still serve with distinction .... 47 g of IMR4320 ignited by a CCI Large Rifle Primer (OK, as a matter of full disclosure, I don't think the brand of primer makes one bit of difference but I use CCI's) pushing a Nosler 30 caliber 150 g Ballistic Tip for practice and 150 g Accubond for big game hunting .... note, no scope adjustment is required when switching from the practice to hunting ammo .... in Nosler's latest manual they show a muzzle velocity for this load of 2842 fps .... with our chronograph 10ft from the muzzle, ours average 2813 fps .... this round has a very flat trajectory and if I do my job, she can place 5 interlocking rounds at 100 yards .... per Nosler's data, if zeroed at 100 yds, the bullet will only drop -3.6" at 200 yards .... if zeroed at 200 yards, the bullet will be +1.8" at 100 yards and -8" at 300 yards .... in my mind, that is an impressive round .... over the years I've taken the most big game with this rifle and this round than .... given, none were taken anywhere near 300 yards, but several have fallen between 100 and 150 yards

That's a classic round in a quality lever gun, for sure. I do like Brownings. I've been keeping my open for a 223 in one of those. Not sure I "need" one, but that "need" is a funny word.

unless its a family heirloom, I won't have a firearm that isn't capable of shooting better than I'm capable of making it shoot .... that BLR most certainly is such a rifle .... it was the first rifle I bought for myself .... it was the first rifle for which I loaded bullets ... from an emotional standpoint, if I could only have one rifle, it would be the one .... from a rational standpoint, it would be in the top 5 ....
