Great weight loss. I had my right knee replaced best thing I ever did. Now I have to lose weight again.

I had my first pre-admission visit to the hospital yesterday for my new knee. I go again on the 14th August, and the op is on the 15th August. It will be a lot different to my hip replacements, from all accounts, but it will be worth it in the end ...... I hope!

I most certainly hope your operation goes well .... mine is scheduled or one week (the 21st) after yours .... my next pre-op appoints begin 10 days earlier

I'm likely going to have a hip replacement within in the next few weeks. I saw the MRI images of my right hip and the ball at the the top of my femur is half gone. In times past, these issues would have been extremely limiting and, in too many cases, life ending. Today, medical technology can commonly restore one well enough to enjoy life's normal activities. At least, that's my hope for each of us.

To all of you "old dudes:" Good luck with your upcoming surgeries, hope that all goes well and may you have a speedy recovery. I only ask that you don't share whatever germs you're carrying with the rest of us. I rather like my original knees, hips, etc.

Had both replaced in 2009. Left one in July. Right one three days before Thanksgiving. Inside half of both were bone on bone. Doc told me the morning after surgery that my right knee was a mess. Took another 45 minutes during the surgery. He didn't remember exactly what the issue was.
Weight is always an issue. The last two years, I hurt my left knee and ankle. Quit the walking and exercising so went up in weight. Up to 295. Now, exercising again and down to 277. Does make a difference. Still have pain and stiffness in everything around the knees, but way better than before the replacement.

I had to take the antibiotics before dental procedures for five years. After that, doc said shouldn't be a problem.

Painkillers after surgery?............ There will be pain. Hydrocodone is the one that worked for me. On the first knee, I took it for about a week and a half. Decided to stop on Thursday night. Got home from work on Friday and told my wife I felt "strange" all day. She is an ex-addictions nurse. Told me that was withdrawal. Switched to Motrin and an occasional Hydrocodone. On the second knee, I went to Motrin when I came home. Hydrocodone about every third night. There will be pain either way.

Good luck with your surgery and recovery. Your attitude about the surgery is as important as anything else.

understood on the attitude part .... I'm more than ready to have it done and getting to this point has taken some effort .... as noted earlier, by April 12th my weight had ballooned to 330, I'd like to get down to 260 (hopefully less) by the surgery that is scheduled for Aug 21st .... that seems doable, this morning I'm down to 267

reloading .. .. what better to do when I'm recovering from knee replacement .... for the last couple of days I've been running a range of fired casings through a "Vibratory Tumbler" .... shown below :

left to right on top row ==> 9mm, 38 spec, 357 mag, 30-06

left to right second row ==> 300 WBY mag, 44 mag, 45 ACP, 45-70

bottom red container ==> odd brass we don't reload (suspect that one or both of our sons picked it up at a range)

in the tumbler right now, more 9mm's .... my best guess is we have at least two more buckets left to be cleaned .... once through with them we can start working on a small mountain of .223/.556

don't know for sure which caliber I'll start on, right now leaning toward 44 mag practice ammo

Well, I'm still in hospital after having my right knee replaced. I came in on Tuesday, and I'm going home tomorrow, so they don't waste any time between customers!

Tuesday night was very bad. I didn't sleep much, and there was a lot of pain, but today is OK. It's certainly not an operation that I'd want to endure very often, so I'll be looking after my new knee and trying to get a bit more mileage out of the old one.

I was connected to a catheter until this morning, but that has gone so I'm a 'free agent' again. I think a lot of the pain comes from not being able to move much. I can't believe how much better I feel already just because I can move around and have a good wash etc.

Good luck with your operation, JEBar. It will be worth all the pain and a few days of inconvenience.

first, delighted to hear your surgery went well and that you are on the mend .... sorry to hear of the initial difficulty but I guess that has to be anticipated .... my left knee is due to be replaced early Monday morning .... early as in 5AM .... am tentatively scheduled to get out on Tuesday or Wednesday

4 days since surgery and I believe things are starting to make a positive turn .... still stiff, still sore, still tired, still somewhat listless but, at the same time, a good bit better .... I'm off the heavy narcotic pain killers, will see if Tylenol is sufficient to get me through tomorrow's physical therapy session ..... no pain from the knee joint but still a good bit from the tissues that had to be moved during the replacement .... no regrets whatsoever at having the surgery

I'm glad you're through the worst of it - even though it might not seem like it at the moment. Every day will see an improvement. Keep doing the exercises - even though they seem to be aimed at killing you rather than curing you!

I drove for the first time on Wednesday (manual/stick shift) and that was fine. I was told initially that it would be 4-6 weeks before I could drive, but no driving = no shooting so that wasn't going to happen.

I now have two new hips and a new knee, but what I really want is a new brain !!

like most everything else, one day all of this will be reduced to a memory .... there was no doubt the replacement was necessary so not having it wasn't really an option .... hopefully, each day will continue to be an improvement of the last
