Action cleaner

Anyone use Rem oil action cleaner? The stuff you spray in the action without disassembly. Or other similar stuff. Any good?
I don't want to be stripping my Uberti all the time.

I've never used the stuff. I pretty much stick to Hoppe's No. 9 and clean firearms the old fashioned way.

What kind of Uberti do you have?

The 1860. Toggle link but not easy to get at the action. I'll strip it once in awhile but just wondering about a good maintenance cleaner.

I use Ballistol .... it serves as a cleaner and lube .... so far, its worked better than any other product we've tried

I don't think the innards of lever guns need to be cleaned all that often. The bolt is locked in battery when the gun is fired, so you don't have blowback like you do with semi-autos.

I'd be wary of spraying stuff in there, as it could likely attract dirt.

The 1860 , 1866 and 1873 has 2 side covers and 2 screws to get to the toggle system . I never use any sprays on these guns . Not good for the wood and they over lube the guns . 1 Drop of oil on the moving parts and then I take a rag dry them off and I only total disassemble every 2000 rounds . You can use the 73 direction on your 1860

The best thing I have ever found short of a complete disassembly is Hornady's One Shot Gun Cleaner and Lube. It blasts away the crud and dries quickly leaving a film of lubricant. I've used it for a few years now and am very fond of it.

Well, tomorrow I'm off to the big city of Lethbridge to buy a good set of gunsmith screwdrivers (I have hundreds of screwdrivers but not the gun type) and I have ordered hardened screws from VTI Gun Parts as spares. I have been putting off taking the side plates off my 1860 Henry because everything I've read or watched says that the screws are super soft and strip almost without fail if you don't take extreme care. Most guys recommend replacing with hardened screws. Unfortunately the 1860 does not have a plate that come off to allow access to the action without removing the lever screw too. So I will be very prepared with proper tools and spare parts when I take it down the first time. Might not be a big deal to guys who have built guns or routinely assemble and disassemble, but it's a big deal to me. I do not want to mark up the rifle in any way!

I seen this on You Tube ............. Good video ..... Make a dummy pin you can slide in and out of the frame to hold the lever in place to work on it . I use STOS on all bearing type points on the toggle system .

Thanks. I think if get 1 side plate off I can clean and lube it ok.

I watched the video I posted and watched him clean the bore with a cleaning rod and NO MUZZLE GUARD ....... Please get muzzle guard or use a bore snake .

I normally make my pistol cleaning rod and note the nylon muzzle guard I make to fit the bore and leave them on the rod .

I have used the Rem oil. Leaves no residue or film to attract dirt and keeps the rust away.
I don't see any problem with it.

I'm curious to see the action on my rifle and how much fouling there is if any after approx 500 rounds through it since I got it in April. But I'll wait until the hardened screws show up just in case I mess one up taking it out. I picked up some nice Wheeler gunsmith type screwdrivers today, but there was no muzzle guard in stock.

I ordered the hardened screws from VTI Gun Parts late last week and I have them today....fast service! Now if I screw up the screws taking the side plate off, I'll replace them with better ones....

Got the side plate off and cleaned the toggle link action. It was quite clean after about 500 rounds only. I lubed everything up and she's good to go. Now I know that there is very little dirt or powder gunk getting in when shooting I'll not have to check it again for quite some time.
