Front sight for Skinner peep

I see that several people have purchased the Skinner peep sights and then had to replace the front sight. What is the height of the replacement front sight that worked best?

It really depends on a lot of different factors - i.e. specific rifle, which Skinner sight (barrel vs receiver), what range you are sighting in at, specific ammo ....

I have a brass 357MAG Bigboy with a Skinner "Express" receiver sight. I ended up putting a Lyman 17A AMI (.494") Globe on the front. With this combo, I was able to sight the rifle in at 25yds using Federal 158g Magnum JSP with the Skinner at about 1 1/2 turns up from its full bottom position.

It would be worth getting a selection of front sight elements for the Lyman units, too.

Right and as Tad says, there are several variables that impact the front sight height. I have a very similar setup as Tad, but because of the caliber in my BB (45LC), I had to choose a taller front Lyman (.584)

There's really no way to tell in advance, but fortunately the front sights are easy to get from Skinner and are not gonna break the bank to buy.

I have a BBS44 and a barrel mount peep, the original front sight works for me :)
