Well a Brass wildlife 45-70 is on its way to me
it will compete with a Marlin 1895 SBL SS and a 1895 Guide Gun for dominance :) :)

Thanks for the comments.
Really hoping it will have some nicely figured wood since there's over $200.00 difference in price for the std model

I really wanted one of these. But when I found my non special edition brass one at a show for a super price I couldn't pass it up.

I think you will find the wood grain straight and true but not fancy. This is a powerful rifle. I think they go out of their way to use a clean straight grain on the 45/70's. That's what I've seen. I think you are likely to find more interesting grain patterns on smaller rifles and especially the 22lr Golden Boy's. This is just based on my observations of a few rifles and pics.

On my own rifles the 22 GB has grain that is artwork!
The 44 mag Big Boy's is nice but less interesting.
The 45/70 has grain that looks like it was hand picked for something structural. Grain as straight as an arrow.

Can't wait to see your pics.

Well rifle got here Friday .. Wood is nice... the rear stock looks kind of tiger striped... Foregrip is more straight grained
Fit is very good ..
only had time to clean bore (to check for obstructions and chips) and fire 2 different loads 2 rd each rds
it printed about 5" left and 8" low ..Nice tight grouping
Front sight is to tight I could not get it to move with a brass punch and a rubber mallet
Rear was easy after loosing the center hold down screw .. Hope to try again tomorrow afternoon before the super bowl

will try to get some pics up next week
