I agree. Very flat shooting round in my Ruger. Should be all the more impressive in a rifle.

Just noticed the 327 Fed chambering in the big boy models. I have three single sevens (all barrel lenths) and an SP101 4.2" ( yes Ruger is making it again, but in a 4.2 " and adjustable sights. Looks like I'll be buying three .

327 Fed is a new cartridge to me .... no experience with it whatsoever .... in doing a bit of searching I found that the major sources (like Cabela's and Bass Pro) from which I purchase ammo and reloading components don't offer very much to choose from .... on the positive side, Starline does offer brass and MIdway does offer some bullets .... I'm looking forward to reading range and hunting reports from our folks who use the 327

I thought I would clue in some of you that are unfamiliar with the 327 Federal. The .327 Federal comes from a family of cartridges that go back to the 1870's. The first of this series was a black powder cartridge called the 32 Smith and Wesson, followed in 1896 by the longer and slightly more powerful 32 S&W Long. Then in the 1980's an even longer by 1/8" version came out ,the 32 H&R magnum, which is a fine little round, but not a true magnum. In the late 1990's an even longer and far more powerful family member had arrived, the .327 Federal. All four are straight walled rimmed cases with the same OD's though the 327 cases are more heavy duty to contain the "rifle like" pressures it generates. They all use .312 bullets (.314 in lead) and can be loaded very easily with many current powders. This family of cartridges are a reloader's dream. From 32 S&W mouse loads, which kill rats and vermin with less fuss than a .22 LR, to a fire breathing dragon .327 at 1700+ fps out of a revolver, they'll all shoot out of the same gun.
I have been enjoying the 32 family since my first 32 H&R in 1984, and a lever gun is just icing on the cake!

Back in the 1980's I purchased a new Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R Magnum. I really like this revolver but the ammo was very expensive and hard to find. Back them I think Federal was the only company marketing the ammo. I first got into reloading so I could load for .32 H&R Magnum.

In the last few years, I have purchased a Ruger Blackhawk and a Henry BB Steel in .38Spl/.357 mag. I also have rifles and revolvers that will shoot .22 magnum rounds. For me personally, I don't really think I need a caliber to fill the gap between .22 mag and .38 spl/.357mag.

I know it would be a fun round to shoot. If it is something you want and can afford it - GO FOR IT!

Folks, I own, and shoot, my dads 95 year old Col Police Positive 32. The 32 S&W Long is the ammo recommended. Is the Henry 327 Mag able to fire this round? Would this make a reloading and practice round make sense? And, is the 327 rifle practical in the field? White tails and smaller game being the targets. I am debating where to go after my 357 combo. Should I go big, or is the smaller caliber adequate? I have always been the guy with the smallest practical tool.
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Any firearm chambered in .327 Federal will be able to fire .32 S&W , .32 S&W Long and , 32 H&R. I don't know if the lever action rifle will function with the shorter rounds with out them being placed in the chamber one at a time. The .327 case has the same rim as the other two. Only the length and thickness of the brass is changed. Also it may be possible that a .32 auto cartridge will chamber as it is of semi rimmed design.
