This boy sleeps in our backyard at night, feeds on apples and is gone during the day, and comes back to feed at night.

Guess who was looking for breakfast! Those cranes would have shredded that coyote.

Sorry about the low quality. It was dawn and not very light out and I could barely see where they were to zoon in. Plus I took the pictures through my living room window.

Sandhill cranes are beautiful, I wish we had them in our area. Very cool to have them in your backyard.

I see them daily. For some reason they like my field. The coyote was chasing them and they stayed ahead by running and just flying a few feet. The coyote ran off after he realized he couldn’t sneak up on them. I think that is why they like the open field. Nothing can sneak up on them. At night they nest by standing in water which is nearby. I’ve seen these same two cranes for the five summers I’ve been here. In October they will fly south and I hope to see them again in April/May.

Three years ago they raised colts together. They can live to be around 30. It’s fun to watch them during their courtship. They still do it occasionally.

We have a pair nesting down by the lake. Their call is quite unique. We sit on the deck in the evening and have learned the call of many of the birds and critters that live around us.
Yesterday we were closing the swimming pool for the Winter and Carol had a very large bull frog in the water that she couldn't catch. I finally got it but boy were those some frog legs. I let it go in the woods.
She never lived in the country till she married me and every once in a while, my devout wife will utter, "What in the hell is that?"
Usually when an owl or fox kills a rabbit.

Stepped outside to make a phone call, too much noise in the house, and saw this guy looking down at me from one of the trees.
