223/556 underlever

Post by Eltell » Fri Aug 28, 2026 4:08 pm

Hi, my son is considering a Henry 223/556 underlever for long range target shooting. Has anyone any experience of this? The youtube reviews sound good but I'd like to hear any other comments.

Thanks.

Which model? There are 3 basic models, plus their derivatives. The Supreme, Predator and Long Ranger. I have a Leopold scoped Long Ranger. It's quite accurate. I've shot it out to 200 yards.

Not sure which model yet, possibly the supreme. Would it be suitable for 400yd targets?
Any advice welcomed.

Google Search Result:
400 yds performance. .223 Remington / 5.56 NATO (Highly Capable)Mechanical Accuracy: In standard 100-yard testing, the .223 version consistently prints 1.0 to 1.5 MOA groups (and sub-MOA with premium match ammo). At 400 Yards: Mathematically, a 1.25 MOA group translates to roughly a 5-inch group at 400 yards. Reviewers and testers have successfully used the .223 Supreme to reliably ring steel past 400 yards, stretching it all the way out to 800+ yards.Real-World Use: It retains plenty of velocity at 400 yards for target shooting or varmint hunting, though wind drift will require careful calculation due to the lighter projectile. To maximize its 400-yard potential, bypass the factory adjustable iron sights and mount a magnified optic via a Picatinny rail. Standard factory testing shows the rifle favors heavier, match-grade projectiles to tighten its long-range consistency.
