Remington Standard V Rimfire

Back to the range with more firearms to test the Standard V. I shot three tubes in the two Henrys and two mags in the CZ. Left to right: my first Henry with the original plastic parts, a Henry SGC wearing a Nikon 3-9x40 Prostaff R, and then a CZ 455.

All fired as expected. I was testing for function and was shooting at the 30” bear so accuracy wasn’t really tested.

Add two more to the trials. A Ruger 22/45 which will shoot anything and a Bond Texas. The Bond is the worst firearm I’ve ever owned.

I’m going to order more of the Standard V. I’ve shot almost 1,500 rounds in 17 different firearms and they have all went bang.

I was shooting the 22/45 and had a failure to advance the round in the magazine. I also had trouble loading the other older magazines. This picture shows how the rounds weren’t falling correctly. The second picture shows a new silver magazine which were not giving me a problem.

Edit: I later loaded the problem magazines with Federal AutoMatch and had the same problem. I’m calling this a magazine problem and not an ammo issue.

Check to see if Ruger sells replacement magazine springs. If so, that may cure the problem.

A couple of years back, I tried to buy Ruger OEM magazine springs for Ruger Mini-30 magazines. I was told that since Ruger does not make their magazines, the carry no parts for such.

Still, it might be worth a phone call.

I took them apart and cleaned them and now they load and shoot fine. Springs and baseplates are still available as these magazines have been made continuously since 1992. New Mk IV mags will fit any older models and older magazines with the current baseplate with allow the old mags work in the latest pistol.

Here’s an early 10/22 Fingergrove Sporter with a vintage V-22 Weaver. I was using a Ruger BX-25 magazine which caused feeding issues. When I used a rotary magazine I didnt have problems and when I used other ammo in the BX-25 I had problems. When this Sporter was made the only magazines available were the OEM 10-round rotarty magazines.

Bottom line is I’m blaming the magazine and not the ammo.

These are the last two at least for now. First up is a single shot Winchester 68-22. It performed flawlessly.

Second is another Ruger Fingergrove Sporter with stock sights. At least this time I knew to use the original 10-round rotary magazine. Another flawless test.

I just ordered four more 6,500 round cases of the Standard V. I based my decision on shooting 1,500 rounds out of 20 different rifles and pistols without ammo issues. I’m ordering now from the same company which should guarantee all seven caes are from the same lot.

I’m thinking of stocking up on these. I can get 550 rounds for $35. Thats just over six cents a round and a lot less than the sixteen cents I pay for CCI SV.

Are these the ones in the clear plastic box of 100? 7-8 years ago I bought like 10k of them. They shot great, but leaded up my cans to no end. I didn't have the misfire problems others have said. I bought some in a cardboard box 50, thinking they are the same bullet and loading. They were not; it was hit-and-miss for me as far as accuracy. I've had better luck with Remington's 525 bulk ammo that is supersonic.

No they are in 550 bulk pacts with 12 packs to a case. I ended up buying 7 cases of all the same lot. I think these will be dirty in a can. Not only lead dirty but also the powder. When I load magazines my fingers are covered in lead. So much so that I wear exam gloves when I handle them. I also bought 3 cases of CLEAN-22 which is specifically made for cans. They are 45 grain and 1,000 fps compard to 38 grain at 1,080.

I already have 4 cases of 36 grain and 4 of 40 grain Mini-Mags plus bricks and bricks of various 22 rimfire. All in all I must have 160,000 rounds. I suspect I’ll never have to buy anymore ammo.

Today was a fun day of shooting. I shot thirteen 25-round, seven 15-round, twelve 10-round 10/22 mags plus fifteen 10-round 22/45 mags. Its fun to shot that much with having to reload a magazine.

I usually buy 10 mags for every 22lr pistol. I don't often buy as many mags for rifles, but yeah. It's nice, load once and shoot all day
