Corroded Ammo

Post by GFK » Wed Jul 15, 2026 4:50 pm

I stopped at a public range to see what it had. On the way out, my wife mentioned ammo. So, I asked about 38 Special +P. There was a loose package of 50 for $25. Yet, the lead tips had corroded. I thought that I might be able to clean them. So, I said ok. I got them for $20. I have cleaned a few. Below is a before and after picture. Had anyone seen anything like this? Am I wasting my time? Will it be safe to even shoot it.

So wear gloves and a mask. That lead oxidization is the best way to raise ypur lead levels. It fastest absorbing lead, it can absob through the skin. It doesn't easily wash out of clothes or rags.

Be careful, especially if you have acidic skin oils.
