The Hummingbirds are beautiful, but I really love the Hawk and Lizard shot. Outstanding work, CH. Thanks.

Re: Clovis" 2026 Images
With time on my hands around the house, I've been playing around a little with editing some images to look like charcoal or pen and ink drawings. Hummingbirds seem to be excellent subjects for this. Some images work better than others for the technique.
Here's one I tried for a chalk drawing style.
The first one prints extremely well on matte presentation paper, which can be folded into a greeting card. I may have to try the color version to see how it prints. Some folks might like the color better.

And now for something completely different.
This hawk keeps hanging around in the two yards behind me.
And another hummingbird picture.

That first Hawk pic takes me back to Hitchcock’s The Birds.
That’s almost a scary shot, well done!

Re: Clovis" 2026 Images
That wasn't the look I was going for when I shot the image, but when I looked at the raw image from the camera, I knew I had to turn it into a selective color B&W image. Besides being low key, and the intense look of the hawk, the fence posts and boards look like tombstones. I wanted to remove the out of focus diagonal object behind the hawk's head, I find it distracting, but Lightroom couldn't quite manage it. At least it couldn't at my skill level. I might give it another try. Lightroom's remove tool is awesome, but doesn't handle every situation well.
Here's the color version of it. I don't like it as well.

Once again demonstrating how talent, skill, and exceptional tools can capture images of action taking place in thousands of a second. These are wonderful. Love it. Thank you.

Re: Clovis" 2026 Images
I find that 1/4000 sec is normally the sweet spot between stopping the action of the wings, and on the other hand, noisy images from having the ISO set too high. It's always a balancing act with wildlife photography. My camera will go down to 1/32,000 of a second, but even in bright sunlight, I wouldn't have enough light to avoid pictures that are too noisy, even using software to remove noise.
This year I wanted to have some flowers that attract hummers. I planted a hummingbird mix of wildflower seeds, but didn't seem to get anything that the birds liked. A very dry spring and early summer didn't help. I want to get images of the birds feeding on the flowers. For now I have to settle for them hovering in the air near the feeder.
This shows how bad a photo is when you photograph one drinking from the ugly plastic feeder. If that were a nice flower, it would be a totally different matter.

That’s interesting, I didn’t even notice the fence tops looking like tombstones until you mentioned it. I suppose sublimaly I saw that and it added to the scary look I saw. Good stuff!clovishound wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2026 1:39 pmThat wasn't the look I was going for when I shot the image, but when I looked at the raw image from the camera, I knew I had to turn it into a selective color B&W image.
