North to Alaska

Post by RetiredSeabee » Mon May 25, 2026 1:31 pm

We recently returned from our third Alaska cruise. And the earliest we have been there. Our first cruise was in late August 2010. Second was mid June 2016 Land and sea, it was awesome. This time was May 5 to 13. A bit cooler than both previous trips. My wife is a tropical she prefers warm sunny days and sandy beaches. But she does love the absolute beauty of our largest state.

A few photos of our trip including Seattle.

Looks like fun times. I recognize some of the scenes and could have eaten all month on that tab.

Lunch ain’t cheap in Juneau 🤣
It was a once in a lifetime splurge.
King Crab was selling at $99.99 a pound in Seattle. Slightly less in Juneau.

I tell people frequently that if you are only going to take one cruise make it Alaska. Worth the money and then some.
I want to go again but just do a longer land trip. The land and sea we did was 5 days land 6 days sea. I would like to spend about ten days on land.

A note the sunrise shot above was completely natural. The light streaks in the sky were not from aircraft.
I have never seen anything like it.

Went on one about 10 years ago. First of the season. Could get into some of the fjords because of ice. Went on a motorcycle tour, train trip, glacier tour and seal spotting. The day we got back, I had three stents put in. I knew something was not right before we left Seattle but my wife was have been disappointed big time and I with my neighbors. So I rolled the dice. I went to the ER where I spent 4 hrs before being admitted. Did not have any ICU beds. I got kind of pissed and started to walk out but a female Doc told me if there was one person who should not walk out it was me. Probably saved my life.

Of course, I am not even going into what my wife had to say.

And if that was 10 years ago, I'd say you're doing pretty goods. 😊

Glad that you are still around Sir. That is a hell of a gamble to take, but we are the stubborn sex. I tend to try to ignore symptoms that might interfere with plans myself. But my wife keeps a pretty good eye on me and usually knows when something is off.

Beautiful pics SeeBee. The Pike Place Market pic at the top sure got my attention as it’s a sight I’ve seen in person many times living in the same state. A great time had is oblivious in the pics. A cruise I have wanted to do but so far it has not happened. Thanks for posting the pics, fun to look at.

Take the cruise you are already close If I didn’t have to fly I would take one every year. I do prefer Holland America over Carnival for Alaska. This one was on Carnival because of a special event on that Ship. But when I go back it will be Holland.

Sad when you have to take a number in the emergency room.
