I am relocating from the 'New Member Introduction' area.
As it happens to be, I had a rather restless night, esp. in the morning.
Last week I initiated a store transfer within the Turner's network, from San Bernadino to Oxnard.
I got the call yesterday and went to DROS it today. So, it's done.
It's another Henry BB Brass in .45LC. It's a seller picture, not very good.



I just thought it would make a great compliment to the Carbine .357 I noted initially.
The .45LC is in very beautiful condition w/ an x-tra smooth action and awesome Black Walnut stock.
I am beginning to feel better. Slowly.

The conundrum was, the long wait time I had to endure w/ the .357 Carbine. It was initially still only half way into the 30 day police hold when made the first payment, plus the 10 day wait time, etc. The usual lamento.
The restless part came from doubts polluting my weary mind as I was trying to sleep. No good deed goes unpunished.

Welcome Ted. Nice choice of Henrys but really there’s not a bad choice. Count me in as one of those touristy types, we’re leaving Washington State (east side thankfully) and heading to Studio City to visit our kids/grandkids next week. Not looking forward to the traffic but I’ll survive.

Why the 30 day police hold

Consignment guns, possibly used guns sold to the FFL by a private person.
Cannot be DROS'ed within the first 30 days of consignment or sale to the FFL.

It's actually part of the broader Pawn Shop Hold Law.

Interesting. I never bought a used gun from a LGS. I have done a couple private transfers and only had the 10 days standard CA wait.

I check consignment racks / counters all the time. That’s when you sooner or later run into this.
It has become more popular for gun stores to put consignment guns on display but mark the day it can be released. They take layaway deposits.Turners with its expansive online consignment & used gun rack has made this a long time practice.
The world of laws and regulations.
Imagine, the olden days. You grabbed a rifle and some ammo at the hard ware store along with a hammer and a pair of pliers, paid and walk right out with your purchase. Today, just the idea of it makes you suspect.

In Michigan we have to do the federal call in "check" but I have never had a problem and always walk out with my purchase. Ammo has no restrictions at this time.
I do recall the early 70's when the hardware store was required to record your ammo purchase for the FBI, and I did have a little trouble when I bought a brick of 22 longs two days in a row. I explained that I had burned through the first brick the day I bought them so I needed more. They were having trouble getting ammo to sell so were hesitant to sell me so much. They told me to slow down. A bit earlier than that I was questioned by the hobby shop owner about my request for waterproof fuse for my rockets. He said the FBI had come in the week prior and confiscated his stock asking about a possible connection with the Chicago SDS so he was suspicious about my need for fuse. I had to use a battery ignition system that was iffy and my interests changed.

As a person now living in the state of New York, I'm no stranger to ridiculous gun laws. We now have to get approval from the state to purchase ammunition, and not only is there a fee for this, you have to stand around and wait for 10-15 minutes while they do it. I reload almost everything I shoot, but any rimfire ammo needs to go through the process. Throws a damper on grabbing a 50 round box while you're out at the gun shop.

We all went through this nonsense back when the Brady Bill went through. That was only a 5 day wait though, and it was presented as more of a "cooling off" period, after it was revealed that there was nothing in place to do an actual check on a prospective buyer. That spawned the National Instant Check System, or NICS check that we still deal with today. And again, we add those fees to the cost of whatever you're buying.

I grew up in NJ, and can tell you how that state would do all the same kinds of BS, but with a bit of a different spin.

Anyway, looks like you'll end up with a big brother for your .357 when the hold period passes. Good for you! Sounds like you have some justification now for a couple new revolvers in those chamberings, if you don't have them already.

My brother is a retired Spokane County Detective and several years ago he pissed off the Sheriff and got punished by being placed on the property crimes division. Part of his job was to go to the local pawn shops looking for stolen items including firearms. He too commented on the 30 day waiting period which was in place to allow work like his to be done.

I really liked the idea of a German/American friendship. Had a trial run in Miami, FL '83/84.
Had to go back to Germany, got stuck there for 10+ years. Left for good in '95. Set foot in California.
Since then, I went back to Germany only twice for a few days each time. That's it in a nutshell.

Yup, Dad AND Mom both in the Navy when I was born. Dad stayed in the Navy, mom got out.
Dad ended up with the Blue Angels before he ended his career... so I joined the Corps. Saw the world.

Yup, Dad AND Mom both in the Navy when I was born. Dad stayed in the Navy, mom got out.
Dad ended up with the Blue Angels before he ended his career... so I joined the Corps. Saw the world.

Both my stepsons joined the Navy. The older dropped out of High School when he joined, He shipped all over the place, esp. Japan.
He picked up on his education later, became a highly qualified RN specializing in Anesthetics.
The younger did well right from the get go, became an air traffic controller. They sent him straight into the Green Zone, Iraq.
He came back fine and did well there after. Both have Navy spouses.

As for myself, I have no affiliation with the Military. In fact, I managed to dodge the draft in Germany, which wasn't easy.
I am actually proud of it. I saw no reason to serve there.
My focus was to get out of there. Not an easy thing to do. It took me 1/2 my life to get to where I wanted to be.

Just a little shooting background. Started shooting kinda late with revolvers. Still have 2 S&W revolvers, a K-frame and an N-frame.
Went through all the usual calibers, .45 ACP, 9 mm, .38 Spl and .223/5.56, .308 for rifles.
Not shooting too much, I sold my 9mm pistols and all my rifles. Only kept my .45 ACPs and one .38 Spl.

Looking at the empty rifle safe, I felt strange. The Henry Lever got more traction in my mind, at first as a 30-30 setup.

Here is the caveat: I never considered pistol caliber in a long gun, aka rifle.
The craze is quite out there, esp. with all the PCCs.

Then I walked into the LGS where I found the .357 mag Carbine. I would hardly shoot that round from a handgun, but I thought it would be favorable from a short barrel rifle for a +/- 100 yard distance. Enough fps and lbs/ft to make for serious stopping power.
The 45LC chambering will be new for me. I wish I could hand load that round. I like mild pressure rounds combined with heavy slugs.

As for the Henry Big Boy Brass itself. I noticed some of the older "no side gate" versions pop up on the pre-owned market. Shooters just prefer the side gate option. I think the brass receiver has more appeal with only one hole, so I take it and load into the tube.

Ted, congratulations on a nice looking .45 Colt Henry. I bought my .45 Colt Big Boy used also. It too was in great shape. It doesn't get out much though.

I have a Henry in .357 Mag and it is fun to shoot, however it is heavy and I would not like to carry that thing in the woods all day. I think it's that brass receiver that increases the weight, but it sure is pretty.

Ya, the brass is denser than steel. Adds about a pound and half or so. In addition an octagon barrel adds a bit more weight over a round barrel.

Ted, congratulations on a nice looking .45 Colt Henry. I bought my .45 Colt Big Boy used also. It too was in great shape. It doesn't get out much though.

I'm not shooting much either these days. Due to family needs I have to be close to home most of the time. My Gun Club's range is in the mountains with no cell reception. I already unloaded my 9mm pistols, Mini 14 and a .308 bolt action.

2 S&W revolvers will stay with me until the end and 2x 1911s .45 ACP for selfdense, should the need arise.

Those 2 Henry rifles are more eye candy than range guns.
Except finding a good deal on ammo for those 2 rifles, I am trying to stay out of the gun store for a while.
