Nothing wrong with the 22 Long. Just that the 22 LR can do anything it can do and more. Back in the day, though, we shot a lot of 22 Longs, since they were cheap and widely available. Still see some around, but not like the old days. In fact, we have a few boxes of the CCIs that we need to shoot up.

I shot the .22 today
WOW... now I see why henry gets the cred it does
after I shot it in a bit, I was making cans bounce and clay pigeons shatter with ease
I found that as long as I loaded a long or long rifle last it would cycle perfect but if the last round is a short ::no feed
something about the follower pressure isn't enough to feed the last short
Other then that... perfect is not a strong enough word!

I guess I can see a step up thing for new shooters for shorts, then long, then long rifle
although I started with LR myself
I shot all types today but I liked the LR the best..... of course

Thanks for the range report. Henry's .22s are well known to be way too much fun to be legal! Too bad about that last round not feeding if it's a short, though. I've found using a short as the last round to be very helpful in avoiding a dry fire when the magazine is empty. The quieter report of the short identifies it as the last round.

Yup and I stole the idea from CT as I use that very same method when shooting 22's now. It works good.

picked up a weaver V 22-A scope and mounted it to my henry .22
it looks like it belongs..... kinda old tech on a old style .22 carbine
It is a tack driver already we will see how it shoots with this new addition

and my old eyes like a scope better

Congrats! Looks good! There are many lever guns with scopes on here, myself included.

Looks great! My son has a Japanese Tasco circa 1970’s sitting on his youth Henry Lever .22. He’s 28 - but the youth model can be shot by anyone. He had it out Sunday at the range. Point is - you’ve got a nice set up there. With that scope on that rifle it may get a little bit - well - too easy.

NOTE: I love the Zevon reference. Nicely done.

If you are worried about a dry fire on the last round, buy some 22 long/long rifle snap caps and load one as last in the tube. You'll get the click, but it will be on a snap cap. No harm, no foul.

CT Shooter, Thanks for the good and true about the .22 long. To anyone who wants to be in the know about such things, you should get a copy of Cartridges Of The World. I bought my current copy in 2000 as I had worn out the one I bought back in the sixties.As long as my mind keeps up with my interest in shooting and gun history, I will always have that book.
