RIP Chuck, you'll be missed.

Death reached over and picked up the phone. Its black bakelite receiver hisses quietly as his bony digits swing the dial to the right. The rhythmic tapping of the numbers echoed in its hood.

Five rings later, "hello?"

"We've met before, more than is normal for a man," Death said.

"Ah," Chuck replied. "We have brushed each other a time or two." With a slow breath, he said, "What can I do for you?"

"I've spent my friend, eons of this work, I simply lack the heart for it," Death's dry voice said. "I need a break."

Chuck breathed slowly, remembering the friends and family who were just here, and all those who had long since passed. "I'll spell you for a while, take a rest," He said.

"Thank you, friend," Death replied.
