Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
In 1986 a pack of smokes ran about $1. At a pack a day that’s $365 a year. If you bought $365 worth of Microsoft stock in 1986 it would be worth around $800K today.
My neighbor who is my age is a heavy smoker and is always broke. I remind him of that fact every time he asks me for $20.

That is interesting. That is kind of how I stopped smoking. In the early 90's, I was probably smoke a pack and 1/2 a day. I remember getting a cartoon of smokes for about $7.00 on base. I was doing a fitness readiness test and did not do as well as I would like. As such, I was provided with the option of participating in an aerobic class. During that time, I stopped smoking as well. In order not to start back buying cigarettes, I started putting $25.00 a month in savings; so, I did have the money available, even if I wanted to smoke. Next time around, I did better on the fitness readiness test, and I still put the $25.00 a month into savings. But now, the $25.00 a month has grown to a few hundred a month. Just cutting out one bad habit has allowed me to live a more healthier and less financial stressed life. But, I do still drink beer.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 4:43 pmIn 1986 a pack of smokes ran about $1. At a pack a day that’s $365 a year. Quitting smoking helped me buy a couple of my Henrys...now that's incentive.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
I traded a smoking habit for a latte addiction. It costs me about the same amount each day. I lead a very frugal life until I retired. Now I live like a king in paradise.GFK wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 5:12 pmThat is interesting. That is kind of how I stopped smoking. In the early 90's, I was probably smoke a pack and 1/2 a day. Didn't you have a single shot black powder pistol? Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else.RanchRoper wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 12:20 pmSpring weather here. Been camping even through the cold and snow we had. Considering selling my reloading gear and cartridge guns. May divest of all but my flintlock. It’s all I shoot anyway.
I remember a couple of rendezvous's that had a pistol trail walk. One was a rifle, pistol, knife and tomahawk trail walk and you even had to set a medium sized trap.

Good morning. The high today is expected to be 55 which will be the warmest this year. I have some burn piles I need to work on today. But first a cup of coffee to watch the sunrise.

Good morning, nice picture there, Gene.
A nice Spring like day here yesterday and looks like a similar one on tap for today. A little less Breezy today I hope.

44 this morning with rain. Clouds came in overnight keeping the temps up. Probably not much increase in temps today as a cold front is expected to arrive. More snow in the mountains thankfully.
After a couple busy days with dr appts for my wife today we get to stay home. All is good with her lungs with her breathing tests very close to the same as her last test in 2022. Whatever caused the infection a month ago is gone.
