KJ had a rare genetic disorder, CPS1 deficiency, that affects just one in 1.3 million babies. If he survived, he would have severe mental and developmental delays and would eventually need a liver transplant. But half of all babies with the disorder die in the first week of life.

I totally agree, Gene and Gene. I can't imagine editing either one of you; in word or otherwise. Though, now that you bring it up, it is a bit ironic that the name Gene itself is very often an edited version of the name Eugene. You? Gene?

But, I was hoping to share information about what strikes me as a significant scientific and medical breakthrough. This child has likely been cured of an otherwise fatal and debilitating genetic defect. Time will tell, but it's promising. And it is the result of recent scientific advances in gene editing and the development of a method for implanting the modified genetic code into the living baby. Thankfully, nobody named Gene was physically injured.
