What's holding you back? Good ones (like mentioned up thread) can be had for well under $500 NIB.

You should be able to get a Rock Island Armscor for about $330.

Re: Let's yak about 1911's
I'm going to have to make another. I gave that one to my son when he was able to visit for the first time in two years. The spalted maple came from a tree that we planted beside our walk when we bought the farm in VA in 1995. It was a stick. Bugs killed it about twenty years later and I ran all the wood through my bandsaw mill.
So it had meaning for him.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

I had a Model of 1911 US Army made in 1917 but sold it when I left Seattle. Wish I still had it.

I've had a few.
A Colt Royal Blue 1911. Loved it, too purdy to shoot. Sold it.
At one point, I had 7 Dan Wesson 1911s. I've had nine in total, but I currently have just the two.
Both commander bobtails.
Vbob and Guardian.
Guardian, (9mm, but my 45 that I sold looked the same.)

Vbob, 45 acp.

Sorry I haven't mastered photos but I like the arched mainspring housing on my 1937 National Match 45 and don't know why everyone has quit using It .was to be the A1 improvement over the early 1911's.
Re: Let's yak about 1911's
Not everyone has. Lot's of folks still like the arch because it may fit their hand better. Same with the grip safety differences and other things. Who needs a lanyard loop these days?

Re: Let's yak about 1911's
I only have one, a 1991A1 Commander. It was the right size for me and it shoots well. It rarely sees the light of day anymore. I think I bought it just to say I had one. The rear sight fell out while shooting once, so I had night sights installed.

It was a husband and wife team. I bought a couple of their holsters. When I went back a few year's later they'd gotten divorced and closed the business.
