Interesting bit of Navy history, that a couple of the old dogs here might enjoy. Takes you from the early 1950's to the 2020's. Lots of pictures. :)

The Navy Nearly Built A Nuclear Armed “Super Sidewinder” Air-To-Air Missile
With a liquid-fueled motor and dual-mode guidance system, the Diamondback was an early effort to make a longer-range missile based on the Sidewinder.

I found that interesting. I had never heard of the cancelled F6 Missleer program. That was an interesting plane concept.

There's a good entry on Wiki about the F-6D, which was a derivative of the F-3D Skynight Korean war night fighter (later became the EF-10B that was active in the early days leading up to Vietnam until 1967).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_F6D_Missileer

The Squadron I was attached to from 1964 till 1967 flew the EF-10B, in a combined ECM and photo recon role - RF-8's were the photo birds).
