Quick trip to the indoor range with stepson

Post by Hatchdog » Sat Nov 30, 2024 10:20 am

Not much to report as this was just a fun quick stop into the indoor range in Spokane. My stepson and family was in town for Thanksgiving and he wanted to get a trip to the range in. He was hoping to bring his wife and two teenage kids but it just didn’t work out. Probably for the best as I don’t feel a loud crowded indoor range is not the best place to introduce new shooters to the sport. He has shot with me several times so knows his way around firearms and indoor ranges.

Unfortunately it was a quick stop on the way to the airport (he and I went to the range and my wife brought our DIL and grandkids to the range a few hours later and they all left for the airport from the range). Since we had such limited time I left the bulk of the shooting to him. It’s been a while since he has had the chance to shoot and of course was thrilled to be there. We started out with my CZ 75B 9mm and then moved to the 686. He decided that shooting a revolver is much more fun than the semi…….how bout that! :D Then since he has a Glock 17 at home and never gets the chance to shoot it he rented a 17 and gave it a run which I thought was a great idea. It was great to see the improvement for him just in the short time we had to shoot. I helped him with his grip and sight picture a little bit. While he was at the counter renting the Glock I ran a quick three cylinders full of CCI SV ammo thru my S&W M/63 and I’m happy to report all three cylinder loads extracted very easily. I have a few other brands of SV to try and I’m pretty optimistic my extraction problems might just go away!!!

Always nice to get shooters to the range who otherwise won't get to go. It also might remind them how much they enjoy it, and they might seek out the opportunities on their own once they get back home.

Pretty neat that your stepson loved the revolver. We need more young people showing an interest in revolvers. Well done.

Good to hear your Model 67 is running great. Mine will be, too. Just needs a little chamber polishing.

Congrats on the family time at the range, cool that he liked the revolver, can't say that I blame him, as I feel the same way.

I hope he will come up this summer with the family so we can hit my little outdoor range. Perfect place for some new shooters to get introduced to the sport in a nice quiet no hurry relaxed environment.
