4 ft brush hog
Re: 4 ft brush hog
I think transportation costs and shipping times may affect broader sales of ag equipment. Heavy and bulky items. Also, it may be that smaller, regional manufacturers are at max capacity to satisfy the regional demand.
Speculation on my part, I don't know anything about manufacturing ag equipment.

That one might be marginal for use with your Kubota. The specs for your Kubota show it delivers 19.5HP at the PTO. DIrtDog recommends a minimum 20HP.HenryFan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 12:48 pmIn a September 14 post, I asked if there is such a thing as a "heavy duty" bush hog.
BrokenolMarine responded the same day and gave valuable comments. I used his guidance in my search and decided the best combination of cost and construction proved to be a Dirt Dog RC104 rotary cutter. It is constructed with 10 gauge steel deck and sideband and a 60HP gearbox. This should prove more than sufficient for a Kubota LX2610SU compact tractor.
I think this is the best choice for my situation but I am aware that Dirt Dog may be a regional company (the Southeast) but I am not sure of that.

Is the 20 HP recommendation at the flywheel or at the PTO?
In any event, I don't think there is a smaller option.
I won't be doing much, if any, more tractor work this year but I can tell you more next mowing season.

I looked at the manufacturer's web site and the specifications for that rotary cutter call for 18-40 HP.

I know my Mahindra is 28 hp. I would imagine the PTO is somewhere between 20 and 28. I can tell you that I got the smallest one that JD makes and the Mahindra does very well with it, but it's at the top end of what it can lift. That sucker is HEAVY. I am concluding heavy to mean well built. So far, I can say that is true.
I hope the Dirt Dog works well for you. I'm sure you will let us know.

Yes at the PTO.
You are correct the 140 is 18-40. I missed that and was looking at the 160 spec.

My Deere 3520 has 37 hp, and it says 30 (claimed) at the PTO. I'll admit to knowing very little going into getting this, but it seems that the general guideline of 5 hp per foot of brushog width is what most dealers use when you tell them you're looking to buy one. When I got my 72" Titan, the guy that owns the dealership and I talked about what size, and he got a lot more practical about it. What will you be cutting, just grass/weeds, or actual brush and small trees? I want to keep a strip around the fields cut as trails to get around with the SxS and quad, so wider was better for me. Then, to your point about weight Dave, he said that for light duty use (which is what my use would be) that the weight hanging off the three-point hitch would be a bigger factor for me. My Titan doesn't have the chains along the front and back for that reason, saving weight.daytime dave wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 5:01 pmI know my Mahindra is 28 hp. I'm still learning how to get it set up, how to use it, and sometimes I think that a flail mower or even a finish mower might have been a better choice for me, but I have what I have and for the near future, I'll make it work.
