Paul, I have two Marlins in this caliber,

I've handled a couple of their 30-30 rifles and they "seemed" to be well built.

Always wondered why Henry never produced a 444, they brought back two other much older calibers. Why not the mighty 444?North Country Gal wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 6:20 pmAs a long time fan of the 444, that is great news. Hope it brings back the 444 in popularity. it really should be more popular.
I'm still debating about buying that Ruger Marlin 1894 in 357, though. Just so hard to beat a 357 lever gun for fun.

Hey forty, you shooting cast or jacketed pills out of that thing?fortyshooter wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:50 pmI have the new Rossi Trapper in 45-70 from which I made the Mules Leg and the quality is very good. The action is very smooth and no issues so far. Only thing it needs is a Hi Viz green front bead sight in place of the dark metal bead.

Yes. it has the CBS like Marlin, I've wondered why Ruger didn't go with the transfer bar also.

Mostly 405 cast with 13 gr. Unique but did shoot those crazy 500 gr. copper Black Butterfly loads!Vaquero wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 1:36 pmHey forty, you shooting cast or jacketed pills out of that thing?fortyshooter wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:50 pmI have the new Rossi Trapper in 45-70 from which I made the Mules Leg and the quality is very good. That's sweet. wish I had the skills and had the equipment to do so.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:12 pmI also ditched the crossbolt safety and made up another pin for use as the saddle ring. It is locked in place with the factory set screw and not used as a safety.
