Still makin' smoke...

Post by RanchRoper » Sun Jul 28, 2024 1:51 pm

I shoot several times a week now, and getting good results. With the caplock I'm hitting 130 yds 12" steel off hand and 75 yds consistent with the flintlock. Been hot the last few weeks, 95F most days. Cooled off into the 70's now and low 40's at night. Much better. Need rain though. Lots of black bears around right now, have to be mindful camping. I have the Rocky Mtn National Rendezvous on my radar for next July, it's the 200th anniversary of the 1825 one and it's on the same site in Wyoming. Should be fun.

Anyhow, shoot safe & often,

As usual your skill with those muzzle loading fire sticks never ceases to amaze me. It's good that you work at and practice with these old weapons. They require and different level of patients to be successful.

Found the post on the Muzzleloading forum looks like its close to the Lone Tree area. I dont have any tents or none of that ground sleeping gear but I might pay a visit to see if I can hit a target with you if you make it down. Thats about 6 hours from my house.

It sure is. Spent the summer in that area in ‘83. Beautiful.

Yup, did some backpacking in the Bridger Wilderness area out of Pinedale, way back in my younger days. Loved trout fishing in those high mountain lakes. You'll love it, RR.
