Almost 30 years ago, I was going up a ladder to go on the roof to blow off leaves.

I woke up in Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, SC with broken ribs, a concussion and staples holding my scalp together.

That was when I was in my 40's and I avoid ladders like the plague at 75.

Be careful out there Vaquero and others.

Some 30 years ago that was an every day thing.

Heights never bothered me, I was always the guy who had to go up on the lift to change the gym light bulbs, used to walk right along the edge of a sloped roof to blow leaves out of the rain gutters. When I was a kid I climbed most of the big trees in the neighborhood and my mom and older brother told me they once caught me going up a ladder to a neighbors roof before I could even walk.

Now I'm very unsteady on my feet when I get winded and while I will still go up a ladder onto a roof I'm a lot more cautious.

As a kid, we had a huge Walnut tree in the backyard, I would climb it as high as the limbs would hold my weight.
Later there was a two lane hwy at the end of the road we lived on, about 100 yds. from that intersection was a bridge over a set of railroad tracks.
Probably over 100 ft. above the tracks, I would walk the concrete banister. Probably 8-10 inches wide. Got some looks from the passer byers.

I used to do heli safety and rigging for film, as well as climbing stunt work. I am not bothered (obviously) by heights.

On that particular job, we just did the soffit and fascia, another crew is hanging the Hardy board siding.
We do vinyl siding, vertical or horizontal, and the vinyl Shake sidings, no Hardy stuff.

That’s good. Hardy is nasty to work with, and HEAVY. It’s nice once it’s on the building though. I prefer the look of it to vinyl, but neither one beats the look of cedar. Practical wise, I would pick Hardy.

The docs don't allow me on ladders any longer, but I did roofing work when I helped to build additions with my stepfather all thru high school. Later, thru my Marine Corps Career, I worked atop the helos, often when they were hanging over the edge of the flight deck of the carrier, 13 stories above the water.

Yeah, not really afraid of the heights. We'd also hang out of the helo, wearing the gunner's belt when hoisting or shooting... I miss it all.

Congrats on still being able to do the work.
