Saturday night 70's... Remembering your great times....

Can't help myself so here's my story........

Things started to get FUN Summer of 1970 when I turned 16....got my license and my brother picked up his new 1970 Hemicuda.
A summer like I had never seen with cruising in the Hemi,when he didn't have a date, along with lot of street racing and I got to drive a bit too!

Summer 71 I bought my first car a nice primered 55 Chevy 283 4bbl/ 4 speed and working at the local big mall movie theater...28 bucks a week and started my Senior year in High School Sept. 71. Now things were getting good as a new girl starts the year in my class and being in the neighborhood needs a ride to school. Moved here from Arizona the school rides turn to romance for a while. Middle of Senior year I get on as an intern paid of course at the local Cable TV Station Channel 4 local access to learn TV production and my boss a local TV personality in the area. This turned into a full time deal after graduation.
Now busy as heck doing daytime programing and also taping the local high school football and basketball seasons of two school systems plus doing night time production of the bosses entertainment show at area night spots....still 18 and loving it! Then a new girl comes into the picture that I run into at a production job.
Graduation in June 72 and full time fun in the TV work and working 60 hrs, a week but still have time for girl 3 Life is good and I sold my old VW bug for a new 72 Opel GT....little Corvette!
Then Spring of 73 comes along and the CATV decides to dump the local programing and I am on my way into Tool & Die work as an apprentice.
Late 73 serious new girl comes into picture and Spring 74 Opel GT turns into a new 74 Z/28 Camaro and in late 75 serious girl is now my wife and still here with me today! There you have it a condensed version of 5 fantastic years in the 70's I would love to do it again with no changes!!!

80’s were a blast.

College fraternity days…

Played college soccer as a walk on. Earned a scholarship and became captain of the team.

Went to Portugal for a month with my Semi Pro team and played in about 10 international matches. Came back to America and started playing my senior season 3 days later.

I was living the life of a soccer player with my head in the clouds. Got home from a Southern California road trip where we played against UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Fullerton and Long Beach state. Got home at 3:00 AM on a Monday . Walked into my classes and got hit in the face with 3 midterms. Oh xxxx! I hadn’t even bought any of the books yet…

I'm an old fart here. In 1970 I had a new house, new car, and a new son. I was busy getting certified as an Air Traffic Controller
at Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center in Leesburg, Va. Life was exciting. I loved the job. Viet Nam was behind me as well.
Alas, in 1976 my Wife decided to skip out with my children and it was five years before I saw them again, but then they came back
to live with me and I had full custody.

I can't say the 70s were a great decade for me.

I stayed single until 1995.

The cars, music, girls, parties, cruising downtown Spokane. Absolutely the best decade of my life. Oh yeah, the hair!!!

1975, got my driver's license and my first car, a '67 Mustang.
Growing up in the 70's was a great time.

My only regret is not taking more pictures of it all especially the drive-in cruising scenes! Now everyone has a camera ready but the cool stuff mostly gone. Love the stories guys keep it rollin!

What got me started on this subject.... Beautiful Saturday evening I had just come back in the Mustang from the cruise in. After a late dinner I decided too early to quit so grabbed some cold beers and my ipad and went out for an evening at my Back Door Lounge all by myself. 70's tunes cranked up from the local oldies FM station and going thru the pictures I had loaded on the thing and that good ice cold Coors taking me back! So I thought I would continue on here!

Messed around in '70's playing in high school rock bands thinking it was a good way to meet girls. Nope. They were all at the riding stables. So I became a cowboy.

In 1970 I was 11, so I'm more with the guys remembering the 80s.
First car was a 1971 Z28. I also wish I had taken more pictures of that, and wish I had it now. I also had the Cragar S/S mags like Vaquero's Mustang. Everyone had them back then. Had Gabriel HiJackers on the back so I could get that ass end way up in the air, but drop it for going through the state inspections.

I don’t have internet right now, our provider lost their tower. We love living in the boonies, but it has it’s downsides. Starlink in a few weeks, waiting on the hardware package. Have to post every now and then from the iPhone, all my pics are on the desktop.

I remember high school in the 70s, fondly, I ghosted through a school filled with rich kids, being one of the few middle class kids in the school. Didn’t really fit in. But, I had some great friends and we had some great times. Graduated mid 70s, scored a job at a huge banking center on midnight shift processing checks for the whole state every night. Good job with a future. Boring...

Saw a commercial for the Corps featuring the Harrier... called the 800 number. In fact, talked to all the branches, including the Coast Guard. I went into boot camp in February less than a year after graduation. Never regretted it.

I can remember tooling Riverside. It was even more popular in the 60’s. I turned 21 in 1970 and just got home from Vietnam and was ready to raise some hell.

“Tooling”. Yep that’s what we called it back then. I had forgotten that word, sure brings back memories. We would park on the side of Riverside watching the cars go past drinking beer. We always had to watch out for the motorcycle cops as they would ride in between the cars driving and the cars parked. That way they could sneak up on you and look in the drivers side windows. Driving that 1957 Chev pickup pictured above I was above the cops eyesight so could hide my beer in my lap.

Funny, my playlist on my very 2024’s phone is mostly classic rock from the 70’s. Will I ever grow up?

I remember bits and parts of the 70's. I was listening to milk parlor music (AM country stations) through most of it. I sit here now listening to classic country on Apple music. In the late 70's I helped my grandfather with his bait and tackle shop. We would net ponds for crawfish and minnows. It was his life's work. He didn't listen to the car radio much, but introduced me to a 70's classic hobby I still enjoy today, CB radio.

I turned 16 in the 80's. I started listening to pop music and my first car was our old Ford Torino 4 Dr with a 305 and bad automatic transmission. I started working part time then in an old folks home for the well to do. The first car I bought myself was a Renault LeCar. It was small and fun. I kept working part time jobs to pay for the car and insurance. I took a career path job out of college at the end of my junior year. I went to a dealership at 22 years old and wanted a new car. Being practical, they had two demos that I liked. A Camero and an S-10 Blazer. Being a practical square (proud of it), I bought the S-10 Blazer. The salesperson sent Christmas cards to my parents address for the next 30 years until she finally retired. I made Eagle Scout in the early eighties. I saw many cool places in the Northeast US and in the UK as a scout. I attended as many different religious services as I could in the scouts. I tried the local cuisine whenever I could, good and bad. I listened to all types of music during the 80's. I saw my first (and last) ballet, developed an interest in good Scotch (In Scotland) and regularly visited an art Gallery. I have few photographs of that time, a leaky pipe destroyed my slide and photographs later in life. I got married in the later 80's and had two children.

Yup, the 80's was my biggest growth period by far. The 70's were when I learned to shoot my father's Marlin .22 and 20 gauge H&R. I have them today.
I listen to 70's hits and 80's hits on my deck in the summer, after the day has ended. as our friend forty has. The songs remind me of those decades and different memories rush back. Still, to this day, all my vehicles have been practical. I guess I'm still a square............and still very ok with it. Good thread forty.

This caused me to have to drive 10-12 miles to get to school and work. Driving that 1957 Chev with a mildly built 283 and three speed manual floor shift was burning a little bit of gas. Holy cow, when gas got up to $1.00 per gallon I decided I couldn’t drive that gas guzzler any more. So I sold it and bought that Vega in the other pic. Man I must have saved several dollars every week. Dumb.

Yeah I sold my 55 Chevy cause a guy offered me a good bit more than what I had in it and bought a 66 VW. Within a few months it has hot rodded with the usual bug stuff! Wish I had pictures of it....just didn't take enough pictures back then.
Where I really screwed up... at that time while working in the TV job we had gotten one of the first small portable video camera and recording decks.
The video tape recorder wasn't much bigger than a medium sized audio tape recorder and you could carry it and it ran on battery pack. I brought the rig home one evening cause I had a sports/fishing trip to tape over the weekend. Should have taken it out to the local cruise hot spots with the brother in his Hemicuda. That footage would have been priceless!!
