Trivia
I’m at the VA Madison Hospital and see this lake above the parking garage. I look the name up and it’s Lake Monona.
It’s where Otis Redding was killed.

Re: Trivia
I like them all, but "Try a Little Tenderness" is my pick. Liked it ever since I heard it for the first time back in late '66, early '67.
I also hope you are doing well !!

Re: Trivia
I’m doing great. The blem on my liver was so small they decided not to biopsy it. It was great having the government pay for two nights in a motel and gas money. I ended up going antique shopping.

Re: Trivia
I have to travel to the OKC VA hospital, I'm about twenty miles short of paid overnight stays. Sux.
So, I try and schedule as many appointments as I can in the same day. If I drive up during off hours, say, 1am... LOL... it's an hour and forty-five minutes to two hours each way. (But seriously, I'll leave at 4am, to arrive before the rush hour traffic and nap in the parking deck at the hospital.) This with an 8:30 or 9:00 am appointment. Not only do I hate driving in traffic anymore, but these days drivers in OKC especially are narcissistic. They will merge without looking while talking on the cell phone and speeding, cutting you off at the height of rush hour. They will cut across five lanes of traffic from the far left lane to exit, because they forgot to move over like a normal driver, or STOP in the right lane and back up to get to an exit they missed, and think turning on their flashers makes it okay.
If I drive up during the regular business day, when there is the regular OKC traffic around Tinker AFB and the OKC / Midtown centers? Two and a half to three hours each way. Can you say the traffic alone sux? MOST of the docs and staff have been pretty good, though I have run into a couple I had to pass on. Overall, I have had some excellent care thru the VA system.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Trivia
You may have missed it, but here in Virginia that is now illegal. No more talking on a hand held cell phone (and more importantly, texting) while driving. I know we can't talk about politics here, and I'm all for freedom, but that is one thing the party of not my choice got right.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 1:47 pmThey will merge without looking while talking on the cell phone
My 2 cents anyway.

Gene, what do you think of Middleton VA. I went there for two years and found that it pretty good but the parking sucked. Canteen was quite small, I thought.

Re: Trivia
It was illegal when we lived there as well. It's illegal in Oklahoma too, as are speeding, running people off the road, and operating while impaired... But....

Re: Trivia
The treatment is top notch. My doctors work for the U of W and teach and do research. That’s typical of a VA Hospital near a university. I’ve never had to worry about parking as the motel is five miles away and they transport me.

Re: Trivia
The VA hospital in Minneapolis is also fantastic. I asked the doc who gave my Uncle a bypass where
he practiced and after some hemming and hawing the replied the Mayo Clinic. They also have Docs
from the U of M.
Most of these guys are doing it pro bono and just do it quietly.

Re: Trivia
For me getting an appointment is sometimes difficult. And some of the clinics are just that. Just a clinic that can’t do much for treatment.cooperhawk wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 6:27 pmThe VA hospital in Minneapolis is also fantastic. I asked the doc who gave my Uncle a bypass where

Unfortunately. laws are only as good as our ability to enforce them...just saying.
