Alec Baldwin charged
Let's keep it non political.
Well, looks like Alec Baldwin has been newly charged with involuntary manslaughter. Another forensic test of the gun confirmed the first FBI test, that it could not have been fired without the trigger being pulled.

That is a shame. It seems like the prop manage should share some of the responsibility.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
Well, 'Rust' armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has already been charged with involuntary manslaughter as well as tampering with evidence. Plenty of responsibility for this tragedy to go around. If only one of the people involved had done what they were supposed to do, no one would have died. At least 3 of them failed in their responsibilities.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
He needed to be charged as the PROP master had asked early on for a larger staff, laid out the safety rules and regs and called for pre-scene briefs like those held on other shoots and was overruled by Baldwin to save money. It's why the first crew walked off the picture.
Oh, wait, it's alleged by multiple independent sources that the information above is factual.

by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
I have not been following this. But, if the prop manager's advice was overruled by Baldwin, I can understand why he was charged. Lots of movies involve firearms, and people are not shoot. I just think having live ammo around a set is a bad idea.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
Baldwin was very responsible, he was saving money all over the place! He cut meetings, staff and relocated to New Mexico in order to cut safety regs saving even more money. He was in charge, he’s a known bully, it’s time to act like a man and own it.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 7:08 pmHe needed to be charged as the PROP master had asked early on for a larger staff, laid out the safety rules and regs and called for pre-scene briefs like those held on other shoots and was overruled by Baldwin to save money. Re: Alec Baldwin charged
IMO...it's pretty simple. Treat any gun as if it's loaded. The primary responsibility is on the one with gun in hand. Check it yourself regardless of what anyone else told you......I would. Yes, there should probably be some charges on those who failed to do their job to ensure safety, but the main failure here is on Mr. Baldwin...again JMO.

Funny thing is that they made 1000's of Western Movies and TV shows in the 50's and '60's and you never heard of any issues. He makes one modern day movie and look what happens.

I wonder what Clint Eastwood and a hundred other stars that made westerns in the 50’s through the 70’s would say.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
I've heard stories about some of those old western stars having angry fits on movie sets when they've seen anyone mishandling guns. I think Clint was one and also Tom Selleck, to name a couple.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
I don't know about Clint Eastwood, but as I understand it, Tom Selleck is a gun guy. I saw a very nice exhibit of some of his guns on display at NRA Headquarters a decade ago.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
I'm not excusing him in any way but the property manager that gave him a loaded gun must be held accountable as well.
Just for a minute think that maybe someone wanted Alec to mess up and gave him loaded gun on purpose. That would be
more than Manslaughter. That would be murder.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
I still contend that he needs to know if his OWN gun is loaded as confirmed by HIMSELF. I know he's not a "gun" person so he may not know how. In that case he shouldn't be playing with guns in the first place.

I expect that Baldwin will be acquitted.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 11:27 amI've heard stories about some of those old western stars having angry fits on movie sets when they've seen anyone mishandling guns. I think Clint was one and also Tom Selleck, to name a couple.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/20/movies/alec-baldwin-criminal-case.html wrote: Legal experts were divided on the merits of reviving the case, noting that traditional gun safety rules — such as never pointing a functional gun toward someone — do not always apply on film sets, and that investigators found he had been assured by the film’s safety crew that the gun did not contain live ammunition.
“The notion that you never point a gun at someone would sort of undo westerns for the past 100 years,” said Nancy Gertner, a retired federal judge.
The outcome of the case at trial — the State of New Mexico vs. Alexander (Alec) Rae Baldwin — would hinge on how jurors view two key questions: Should Mr. Baldwin have known of the danger involved in his actions that day? And, using a term of art in criminal law, did he act with a “willful disregard for the safety of others”?
There is a complex web of factors that would quite likely come up at trial, including the condition of the gun, which broke during F.B.I. testing, and Mr. Baldwin’s responsibility as a producer on the film.
Mr. Baldwin has asserted that even though he was a producer, he had no involvement in hiring crew members, including the movie’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for guns and ammunition on the set. She has pleaded not guilty in the involuntary manslaughter case against her.

Re: Alec Baldwin charged
Pointing a gun for the purpose of film making is a given. I still would not point it much less pull the trigger if I had not checked it myself. I bet Selleck and Eastwood would agree.
