Not until you posted it. However it's not unexpected. James has been going after the NRA for several years. The NRA has been it's own worst enemy for a long time, so maybe it's time to close the book on it. There are other organizations that will pick up the torch.Vaquero wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 3:33 pmAnyone seen this?

Sadly none of them have near the membership or clout of the NRA. Ms James is notorious for these frivolous lawsuits.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
I presume this is a civil trial and not a criminal trial but it may surface allegations that have been floating around for some time.
I have been concerned about these allegations and other than Midway USA round-up contributions, I have not donated funds to the NRA in years. And I am a Life Member. As long as Mr. LaPierre and the hand-picked Board of Directors remains, the NRA will continue to shrink and become less effective.
Maybe this will be the bitter medicine the NRA needs to cure itself.

I will agree with the clout but just think how much more clout they would have IF people like me and others have stated would donate even more money. Life member and have not donated anything for a long time because of La Pierre the thief. They have called and I have told the party calling will not donate until Pierre is gone.

As much as I am not a fan of New Yorks attorney general, I do believe her investigation of LaPierre is justified. Like Big Al I’m a life member from many years ago, but refuse to give them on cent as long as LaPierre remains.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
Not going political.
I am a life member of the NRA and have long been a supporter. I was an NRA Law Enforcement Basic Firearms Instructor and Tactical Shooting Instructor and Shot in both Military High Power Matches while on Active Duty and then in PPC matches during my post Military career. I also shot in the Glock Shooting Sports matches, also affiliated with the NRA. When I taught private classes, I gave out NRA membership apps, but didn't push the students to join. I only pointed out the good things the NRA did as far as training, kids safety training, hunter safety and the like.
I did contact the NRA several times to discuss the ill effect the constant dunning of members for donations had on retention of new members, and the feedback I got from my students / friends who did sign up. I pointed out to the reps I talked to that I NEVER put my Life Member info on the cards/Applications I passed out to earn recruiting credits and SWAG as I didn't feel it was right. it would have seemed to me that it would have put undo pressure on those I handed the cards to. (If YOU sign up I can get points toward this nice Jacket/Gun Case/etc.)
I do enjoy the publications and the articles, and think the training and trainers have been excellent over the years. Top Notch.
I stayed out of the politics.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
I agree.
Although I'm still a member, I don't like a lot of things I've been hearing about him through the last many years amongst other NRA and former NRA members to boot.
I've been hoping the problem would fix itself.
Maybe this will help.
I know one thing, I never found myself feeling bad for him.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
If the stories I hear which allege LaPierre and a few top-level NRA managers are living like royalty off of the NRA are true, I find it disgusting they are seeking donations from blue collar folks who do not and cannot live such a lifestyle.
I understand this is why Ollie North left the NRA.
Of course, this is all hearsay to me since I do not have any idea what goes day-to-day with the NRA nor do I have any idea what goes on during NRA Board meetings. But there is too much smoke for there to be no fire.
Also, the Board must turn a blind eye to this and if true, there probably needs some house cleaning there as well.

His salary is more than the President of the United States by a significant amount. He has also received bonuses of more than the average workers yearly wage.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
I have to echo the sentiments of previous posters. I'm a life member and another level past that. I too have stopped giving to the NRA while that gentleman and his fellows are in charge. I used to get calls asking for support (money) and I told them the same thing Al did. They don't call anymore.
I've been to the NRA headquarters in Alexandria and met some fine people there. I'm still a proud life member as my signature here shows. I hope NRA returns to it's core mission soon.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
That's disgusting.
I was a member for a loooooooong time, but was annoyed with all the phone calls and the misuse of funds.
One day they called about another donation and I think I had a few months before I was to renew my membership.
I pretty much told them to pound sand and don't call again, and that I wouldn't be renewing my membership nor give them another penny until things changed. Even all the purchases I made/make at Midway I refuse to round up.
I hope this does bring things to light and some heads roll.

Only reason I am a member of the NRA is that the range I belong to requires it. Hopefully a group like the Gun Owners of America can pick up the slack.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
It is my belief that that without the NRA we would have lost our gun rights long ago, for that, I am thankful. I hope they can just throw out the bad eggs and carry on.

Re: Wayne LaPietrre to stand trial
I have been an NRA member since I was 16 years old. Not a life member, just a yearly paying member. Like previous posters, I am not satisfied with the leadership, but I do occasionally contribute to their political action fund.
I am also a member of the GOA and contribute to them regularly and also a member of the Illinois State Rifle Assn. In my opinion, GOA is more active protecting the 2nd amendment than the other two organizations that I am a member of.
I don't really understand why some top dog leaders of grassroots organizations have to adopt the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

I do most all my in my yard or next door on the farm for some longer range stuff, butGtownGeorge wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 5:00 pmOnly reason I am a member of the NRA is that the range I belong to requires it. Hopefully a group like the Gun Owners of America can pick up the slack.
some years ago I was contemplating joining a local range because of a competition they had.
When one of the requirements was I had to rejoin. Said no thanks.
