New decoration for the garage/man cave.
This summer I had about 600 visitors living in a tree in my yard. They moved out and left this really cool memento of their visit. It is amazing how the little guys build a nest this size by chewing up plant fiber and pasting it together with spit.
I am going to pick up a can of spray from an art store to help preserve this without making it any more flammable than it already is. It will have to be hanging in the garage……because there is no way that my wife is going to allow it in the house.

The residents were Bald faced hornets. Some sources that I researched stated that they can be aggressive and hazardous to humans. Others said they were relatively docile. These little guys were good neighbors. I had to mow and work under their tree all summer long and never had any problems with them. I could stand a few feet from the entrance of the nest and watch dozens of them come and go. And they eat insects so I had the benefit of pest control for free.

So many different varieties anymore. Some ARE very aggressive though. Glad that your residents were peaceful.

A neighbor of mine in Virginia found one of those and wrapped it up as a Christmas Present for the
crazy lady up the street. She was delighted and hung it up in her house. The warm air woke up
the hornets within and they had to move out of the house and have it fumigated.
Make sure it's empty.

Re: New decoration for the garage/man cave.
I've had a few through the years.
When I was in my teens, one year deer hunting I came across one, it was way up the tree.
Took me a while but I finally got to it and cut it out.
It was a near perfect ball shape, as we, my brother and I were walking back to the house.
The day had warmed up a bit, and as we are walking along they like coop stated.
They began to wake up, needless to say we left it in the field we were crossing.
And ran like Hell.
