Araneus marmoreus, commonly called the marbled orbweaver, is a species of spider belonging to the family Araneidae. It is sometimes also called the pumpkin spider from the resemblance of the female's inflated abdomen to an orange pumpkin.

Harmless to humans. Pretty little creature. Spiders are (mostly) good neighbors. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Yeah take a walk in the dark around trees and have that on your hat dangling in your face. Had that happen to me on one of my trails one evening!

Here is one from the Old Farm House in Cumberland VA.... She's a big 'un, and the web was about 6' across on the deck.

I’d call that one Pumpkin Spice.
I try to avoid spiders, they creep me out more than some people are from snakes. Having to do anything in the crawl space under the house is my worst nightmare. I have never seen a spider under there but …… !
Knowing what good the creepy little critters do I leave them alone. But walking into a web in the dark initiates a freak out dance complete with moon walking that Michael Jackson would envy.

OK, enough!! A few years back down in Texas a brown recluse go in bed with me and bit me several times
on my back while I slept. I had open sores for weeks after that. I DO NOT LIKE SPIDERS, OR SNAKES, thank you.

I grew up in Florida, and we had HUGE spiders that built webs across the spaces between trees. The spiders were HUGE, and the webs would span six to eight feet across. Early mornings you could see them when they were covered in dew, but later in the day they disappeared. Running thru the pines along the creeks playing war games, you suddenly went from Combat to damsel in distress when that web wrapped around you and you thought that giant spider was crawling on you somewhere. (Sometimes they were.) Game ceased as all the friends ran up to check... hats were used to swipe it off if it was spotted. I always felt it was on me for a long time after the web run...

In Oklahoma we have Tarantulas so big you can see them from your CAR as they run across the road in front of you.

Brown recluse bites are NASTY.

We took on Bananas in Spain when the ship put into Rota. Pallets of Bananas. Seems that Brown Recluse spiders hitchhike with Nanars. One of our Gunnery Sergeants got bit by one of the recluses, but like all good Marines, refused to go to sick bay, because he had stuff to do. The bite was high on his thigh, so it didn't show. It turned red, then blistered, and then began to swell and get really angry... In the end he began to limp. Recon Marines in charge of Platoons are NOT supposed to Limp. His LT saw this and ordered him to SHOW him what was wrong with his leg. The LT was not fresh out of OCS but was a MUSTANG who had been a Master Sergeant, then a Warrant Officer, and promoted to 1st LT on his last tour before retirement. He recognized the bite for what it was and ORDERED the Gunny to Sick Bay. The Doc had a Hizzy Fit. The reddened area was now the size of a tea cup, and the center ball was larger than a golf ball and hard to the touch. SURGERY was required. Brown Recluse venom KILLS tissue. We were halfway through a six month cruise (That lasted seven because of "The line of death thing") and it took a couple months for the Gunny's leg to heal. They wanted to fly him off the ship but he insisted on staying with Recon and was limited to supervisory non-mission duties. His leg healed before the end of the Cruise but he could stick a golf ball in the remaining void left by the loss of tissue and it would stay.

Unfortunately he was married to a nice gal from the Philippines, and when he got home she ragged on him for several months for his failure to get the bite taken care of immediately. I think the phrase she used most often was "Boneheaded Stubborn Stupidity." A few months after our return, another youngster in the barracks was bitten and after a week, decided to "Drain" the bite with his Kbar. Doc was NOT happy and sent out a memo to all units that ALL spider bites MUST been seen by authorized medical personnel immediately and failure to have them seen would be dereliction of duty.

Yup, don't like spiders. I understand one of the most lethal bites in Australia ... is a spider.
My son wanted a pet spider. I told him he could have one. As soon as he moved out.
