Fall Colors

Our local weather guy last night showed a fall color forecast map for the northwest. Due to our continuing drought the colors are expected to be less bright than normal. But since most of the trees around here are evergreens we don’t get much in the way of colors anyway. Except for the Tamaracks of course which turn bright yellow and really stand out against all the green. And in Spokane where many varieties of deciduous trees have been planted it does get very colorful.

I looked across our small valley when I saw your beautiful photographs Gene. We are just starting to get a tinge of color here. No where near what you have.

I drove to the store for a gallon of milk and took these pictures. We are in the beginning of the peak of the fall colors. In another week or two we will be past prime viewing.

Very nice. We had puzzles that looked almost that good.

We used to take a trip once a year during the peak color on skyline drive when we lived in VA; then the traffic and the wrecks got to be too much. The colors in the mountains were amazing though...

Was in the backcountry myself yesterday....yup winter is around the corner.

I miss fall. Down here are leaves are on one day and off the next with the exception of the live oaks which stay green all year.

I think we are past the prime viewing.

This picture was taken from near the top of the hill behind my house and is part of the 22 acres I recently bought. You can see it’s almost as high as Timms Hill which is the highest point in Wisconsin. My hill is the third highest private hill. All are within 50 feet of each other.

This picture was taken further up the hill and Timms Hill is hidden behind the trees.

We went to camp this past weekend. No pictures because we are spoiled at seeing it, but the colors were just about peak. Traffic was greuling as everyone was out to "see" the foliage and most forgot the speed limit. Our neighbors saw a bull moose on the next lake over when they went for a paddle.

We spent last week at our property up near the border. It’s 2700 in elevation and the willow was changing but the aspens were just starting to turn over. Another week or two it’s going to get very pretty up there.

We just got back from a 12 day 3,800 mile loop that took us from Spokane to Bozeman, down through Yellowstone to Cody, then down the Windriver to Lander, to Steamboat Springs, Salida, over to Ouray and Telluride, Moab, SLC, Ketchum/Sun Valley, up to Missoula and home. Lots of driving, but lots of color too! (Including some colored hardware!)

That would be a beautiful drive this time of year. I’ve been on all those roads many times but never in one trip like you did.
