If it's not one thing it's another

Post by clovishound » Fri Oct 06, 2023 6:20 pm

Wife fell and was having some issues getting around. No sharp pains, just ache from knee to hip. Got a little worse, then a little better. This morning she could not get up from a sitting position. Finally convinced her to go have it checked out. EMS got her up and over to the small emergency room around the corner.

Broken hip.

Wasn't expecting that. She's been able to walk since the fall, and no sharp pains. Anyway, she's in the hospital now waiting for results of the CT scan and the ortho doc to look at her, and will have either repair, or replacement surgery in the next few days.

Sorry to read this, CH. It's so very hard to watch someone you love having to endure these things. I hope she recovers quickly.

Sure hope she heals up okay and sorry to hear that. Got to watch for the falls that can get you anytime. Almost had one this morning in the garage when one of the lights didn't come on and I walked off the second step but was able to catch myself this time.

I saw this many times over the 20 years that my wife owned an assisted living home. Its one of the biggest fears as we grow older. Happened to my Grandmother when she was in her 90’s. I wish her the best and a speedy recovery.

The good news is that they have come a long way in treating hip issues. Hip replacement surgery is very common, and most folks have great success with it. Hope to find out today what type of surgery and when it will be performed. Just called the hospital and she has been moved out of the ER to her own room, so that's good news. This is a fast growing area and hospital beds are at a premium.

Thanks to all. Looks like she's scheduled for Monday. Probably going to be a half replacement vs full replacement or pins.

Well, she had her surgery late this afternoon. Doc said the surgery went very well. Right now they have her on some heavy duty drugs. Tomorrow the real work begins with physical therapy.
